Welcome to the sale of Rio Barco, my much loved Dawncraft 22. She is located on the Macclesfield Canal near Poynton, a short distance from Marple Bridge and the Peak Forest Canal. The boat safety certificate continues until August 2022. Reason for sale is relocation.I’ve owned Rio for the last two years and have put a lot of time into making her a cosy retreat on the water. At 22 feet long, with a beam of 6’8″ (2.08 metres. Ideal for passage on the canals) and internal clearance of 5’10” she is in my opinion the perfect starter boat; small enough to manoeuvre easily, yet with enough space inside to offer a comfortable living area. I won’t deny that she is snug compared to larger boats, however you’ll be hard pressed to find one with as much character. For those looking to moor in a marina, at 22 feet you’ll find she’s also a cheap boat to keep. The inside is where Rio really shines in my opinion. I’ve lived aboard through sun, rain and snow and all in perfect comfort. As you can see from the pictures the inside is made up of one open cabin with a bed at the front (this could be converted very easily into additional seating). The kitchenette incorporates an extended stainless steel worktop for extra cooking space. A pump action tap connected to the onboard tank can be found here; I use in conjunction with a collapsible wash bowl. The cooker sits next to this – two hobs, a grill and oven. The cabin is lit by two led lamps which are connected to an onboard leisure battery (which in turn has a solar panel attached). The battery also powers the digital TV, bilge pumps and engine starter. A cassette style loo can be found in a separate cubicle by the door. Along with plenty of storage the best part of the cabin for me is the wood burner, very unusual to see in this style of boat but a must for those chilly evenings! The ceiling of the main cabin is clad and painted, while the area above the sleeping area is currently insulated with no cladding (see photo). The windows are covered with blinds and the front window also benefits from a raffia blind for increased privacy during the day.Outside, the rear of the boat enjoys a large open space with the lid to the engine compartment making an ideal seat or worktop. I tend to use for BBQs. The canopy has unfortunately seen better days and will need replacing. I’ll include with the boat; someone who knows their way round a sewing machine might be able to breathe fresh life into it. On the front roof of the boat you’ll find the aerial, solar panel and a storage rack (all three are easy to remove should you wish). On the bow is a small frame I use as an onboard garden, again this is easy to remove. The outside of the boat is showing it’s age in places and could do with a fresh paint job down the line (I’ve included a few cans of various colours for touch ups). You can probably see from the photos that there is a transfer of the world map on the hull, this is the same for both sides. The engine is a Yamaha 9.9hp (an outboard but enclosed like an inboard). The boat has been sitting stationary for the past year and although the engine starts it is a touch temperamental and I’d recommend a service before any long journeys unless you know your way round such things. I’ve reflected this in the starting price. As you can see the photos show personal belongings which will be removed prior to collection. To avoid confusion this includes the Goal Zero portable battery on the side, attached light (currently above cooker) and the black solar panel that is visible on the top of the drivers canopy. The boat only comes with the silver solar panel mentioned. So there you have it. Rio is a wonderful little boat to begin your adventure on the water, whether as a day retreat, a weekender or for longer excursions – For some she may be a touch snug for full time living, however I can happily say that I’ve done it and enjoyed every minute!Bank transfer following end of auction. Happy bidding!
