FREEMAN 22 MK 2, FOUR BERTH RIVER/CANAL CRUISER
Freeman id number 137, build date March 1967.
Due to lack of use we have decided to sell our beautiful
Freeman classic canal cruiser , we bought this boat last year with the
intension of fitting a modern small diesel engine, which are plentiful on Ebay
at around 1 to 1.5 thousand pound or a small outboard fitted to the back. Its current inboard is a marinized Ford
1500cc (Sea Tiger) engine which starts up instantly, never misses a beat and
will chug up the canal all day at a leisurely 4 knotts, but now pushing 50
years old and in in my mind too big off an engine just for canal use and not
being used to its full potential power.
At 4 knotts its only just above tickover . Bearing this in mind, We have
structured this into the reduced asking price of £4250.00 to replace the engine
to a small modern diesel engine or petrol outboard if you so wish or leave it
as it is.
Whimbrel is a lovely example of a classic Freeman 22.
Retaining the charm and style associated with Freeman
The cockpit is a generous size and has a full width stern bench seat
upholstered in grey vinyl. On the port side is the grey vinyl Freeman single
helm seat which sits on top of a storage cupboard large enough to house a
generator, The cockpit sole lifts to provide good access to the engine and
drive shaft. On the Stb side is the door leading down into the
The cabin is fitted with the classic Freeman rich wood which is in very good
condition for her age. The cabin is open plan with the galley to Stb,
comprising of a SMEV combination stainless steel sink & 2 burner lpg hob
with black glass lids, new in 2016. The sink has a hot/cold mixer tap & 12v
pumped water supply. A DeLONGHI 240v microwave is also fitted. Opposite the
galley is the dinette which converts to a double berth. Centre Stb is the
toilet compartment with a THETFORD cassette toilet, new in 2016, not the usual
porta-potti fitted to most Freemans. The door opens up to form a full partition
to divide the boat allowing privacy in both cabins. Forward is a V Berth which
converts to a double berth. There is a good sized wardrobe between the 2
cabins. The upholstery was professionally recovered in 2016 & new
curtains fitted. New vinyl flooring was installed in the cabin & the
cockpit in 2016.
The boat benefits from a calorifier fitted in 2016
supplying hot water to the galley sink. The calorifier also has a 240v
immersion heater which is very useful when connected to a generator or shore
power. 240v RCD unit fitted.
A new Freeman hardtop & side curtain were fitted in
2010 & are a great improvement over the original pram hood design, receipt
for £1400 included.
Nasa echo-sounder & compass – Whimbrel was previously
moored at Beverley & was used on the Humber.
Very tidy all round for a 50 year old boat.
Antifouled in 2016. The trailer shown in one of the
photos is not included in the sale (it has been sold) but the photo does show
the new antifouling.
Original logbook, J type gearbox manual, owner’s manual,
Freeman projects book & a large portfolio of service and repair
invoices are included.
Boat Safety Certificate to Oct 2019.
The majority of the cabin lights have been replaced with
low consumption Led lighting.
A new set of matching fenders & a stainless steel
boarding/swimming ladder were fitted in 2016.
The boat is currently moored on a rural
residential/leisure mooring on the Shropshire Union Canal near Chester.
The mooring should be available to the new purchaser, price to be agreed.
There is a Yardmaster metal shed (2016) available on the mooring if
required. Price by negotiation. This is extremely useful for storing spares
& bikes etc. Many of the residential moorers keep their generators in a
