Metana is a beautiful 41-foot Naval Pinnace, built in 1938 and decommissioned in 1945.
This type of boat has a long heritage: originally developed in the 1600s, pinnaces were used for light naval duties until the mid-twentieth century. The name developed from the old Spanish word for pine tree.
This is a project boat in need of some sympathetic repair work and refitting. She has an elegant outline, with the potential to make a comfortable houseboat or pleasure boat.
She has had some sympathetic repair work done, but needs more. I’ll be sad to part with her, but have concluded that I don’t have the skills to give her the makeover she deserves (especially as I have a new job in London which makes it hard to get up to Gloucester and work on her).
Living quarters:
Small forward cabin with toilet and shower in small corner compartments
Enclosed wheelhouse: this is a bright, pleasant space, perfect for airy dinners in the spring and summer
Spacious aft cabin with kitchen and bed.
Hull: wood sheathed with GRP (fibreglass). Mahogany and oak replacement frames, with larch deck beams and pine stringers.
Iron ballast keel
Deck and superstructure: wood, mostly coated in GRP (fibreglass).
Radiator heating system and electricity (AC 220/240 volt shore power and DC electric) system installed and working.
She is currently moored in Sharpness (about 30 minutes’ drive from Bristol and Gloucester). Please message me to arrange a viewing,
Survey February 2017 (please message me if you’d like to see it).
She has undergone some repair work in March 2018:
New engine water impeller fitted
Repacking of stern gland
Hull scraped down and additional GRP coating
Fuel tanks flushed, cleaned and polished
Dried out with dehumidifier
