Year: 2001LOA: 16′ 11″Beam: 6′ 1″ Draft: 2’Construction: GRP Hull/Keel: PlaningTechnical Description:The Orkney 520 has a semi-displacement hull with full built-in buoyancy and a self draining cockpit. The standard beam is built of heavy-duty laminated GRP and the hull & deck are wet bonded with a GRP girder system under the cockpit sole for additional strength. All hidden cavities are filled with foam buoyancy.General: This Orkney 520 – Sea-Bastian is in exceptional condition and fully lives up to the Orkney Boats motto – ‘Built to Last.’ Finished in gleaming blue and white GRP this vessel could easily pass as virtually new, indeed most people who see it ask the question ” Is It new?”Sea- Bastian is fitted with a Yamaha 30HP 2 Stroke engine, with electronic oil injection, providing an optimum power to weight ratio. The engine has a power tilt mechanism, electronic choke, and, of course, remote steering. The trailer, included in the sale, is branded Orkney. It has been fully serviced and has just been fitted with new wheels, tyres, wheel bearings, Jockey wheel and winch strap. Background I purchased this vessel 7 years ago as a family day boat and actually named it after my first grandson. My main requirement, therefore, was safety and I was particularly attracted to the extensive built in buoyancy in this particular model. It will not sink! I also wanted a boat that I could ‘easily’ launch single handed. It’s low weight of 340KG provides for easy launch and recovery, assisted considerably by the swinging rear roller assembly of the trailer which allows the boat to be recovered in very shallow water. It’s extremely easy to tow assisted much by the light weight Yamaha engine – ensuring the tail doesn’t wag the dog! Another big feature of the 520 is the semi displacement hull which means the vessel planes over the water and it is therefore capable of travelling at up to around 20knots. When on the plane it is possible to automatically bale out any water that may have got inside the boat. This is a great feature as it eliminates the need to bale out with a bucket etc. It also means that any mess created by fishing etc. inside the boat can easily be rinsed out and removed effortlessly. The Orkney 522 is probably the nearest of the current Orkney range to the 520 but it is a considerably heavier boat which negates many of the above advantages. It does take a bigger engine, and can therefore achieve higher speeds. The 522, with a list price of nearly £18000 new plus the additional cost of an engine and trailer comes in complete at around £30k. I therefore believe this listing of the Orkney 520 represents excellent value – I hope you agree! Thanks for looking/ reading.
