This is an unfinished boat project, on a steel trailer. It is a classic Shakespeare fast sports boat
design, 16′ long and 6’3″ beam, and is for the boat hull only; no engine included.
Bill Shakespeare started building
glass-fibre boats in the 1960’s, based on his patented powerboat hull designs ( W. Shakespeare (boat builders) Ltd. of Tewkesbury, Glos., UK. ),
most were speedboats, but some – like this one – were a fast sports boat
design, that can be used on lakes, the sea and as a fast sea fishing boat.
The hull is watertight and in good
condition, but instead of a speedboat deck, this boat has a sportsboat cabin,
also from fibreglass. My project was
to strip out the cabin area, remove old paintwork and then rebuild it along the
original Shakespeare sportsboat design; I have completed the stripping part of the project, but have not
refitted any equipment (see pictures).
I have various parts for this refit, including the steering and gear
lever, but have not looked at these in detail; so they will need servicing.
In the end, this project was taking me too long to complete, so we bought another boat, that needs no refit, only maintenance. My wife and I can use straight away; rather than a hobby boat, sitting on the drive, waiting for me to complete the rebuild. We can now go boating at weekends.
