SPARES OR REPAIR.1999 Polaris SLH PWC.I bought this as a project last year and was told that the engine had been rebuilt but there was no paperwork to prove and supposedly all it needed was a throttle cable and a starter motor to make it work. After purchasing a new starter motor off ebay (it was cheap) I put the battery from my other ski on it and it turned over but it would not fire so I did a compression test and one cylinder was 120psi and the other 130psi so plenty of compression and pointed towards maybe it had been rebuilt but I still have no idea. I’m also not sure that the new starter motor is really powerful enough as sometimes it will only turn over for a few revolutions before spinning out (I did say it was cheap).Anyway on further investigation I found that there was no spark at the plugs. So out came the stator and I cleaned everything up, put it all back together and tried again but with the same result. I have looked into getting another stator but all the information I have found is that there are two types of stator, early and late, they are NOT interchangeable, you will need to find an early one or get this one repaired, the alternative is to get a later one and then add to that a new dci unit and coil pack. Again this is information that I have found out but please do your own investigation as I might have been told rubbish. So I have had enough messing with this hence it is up for sale. The following is what I have found out and what I have done:I sourced a second hand throttle cable but the trigger/lever still needs to be sourced, you can buy these easily off ebay if originality is not an issue.I bought a brand new bilge pump as it didn’t have one, it is fitted and works. One of the four engine mounts has been “pinned” together with a self tapper, I would change this but was waiting to get it running first. The oil pump has been deleted so you will need to pre-mix your two stroke fuel, not an issue and is what I am doing with my other ski. You could buy a second hand or even new oil pump and tank and refit as standard if you wanted as it looks like all the lines are still there. The fuel tank has only one of the four bolts holding it down, the other three threads are fine just need three more bolts. The small storage area below the bars has no catch. The seat has a broken catch, basically the plastic around the bolts has broken, the catch is there so not a major issue to repair with some resin. The steering has a bit of play in it (up and down movement of the handle bars, not left to right). The instrument panel works but shows a flashing “hot” icon, not sure why, could be the exhaust temperature sensor but I do not know for sure. One of the rubber foot pads needs regluing back down. The underside of the ski is in fairly good order with no major chunks missing but obviously some signs of wear from years of use. There is no battery. The two battery rubber retaining straps are missing. The trim motor works as it should.I bought two new lanyards as there were none. The trailer is galvanised and in good condition, the tyres hold air and I did tow it 60 odd miles last year without issue but they are now seriously cracked around the side wall. The tyres are 4.80/4.00-8. One of the mudguards is missing but the bolts are still there. There is no trailer board fixings and no trailer board. The jockey wheel does not wind up or down.I have tried to be as honest as I can, but I am not a jetski mechanic so can’t say for sure if there is anything else required to get this back in the water, however I do know that parts are still available for these, new and secondhand and that breaking it up would probably get more money than selling as a whole unit but I do not want to break it up.So in conclusion, fairly presentable ski that could be put back into service or split for spares, I’ve just had enough messing with it and have many many other projects that I would prefer to waste my time on.The ski is located near Knebworth in Hertfordshire and can be viewed prior to the auction ending, just message me to arrange. This is also where it will need collecting from. The auction will run it’s course so please do not ask to end early. There is no buy it now on this.
