It is with great sadness that we are selling our share in the narrowboat Soulbury. This is due to ill health and bereavement which has left us unable to enjoy our time aboard Soulbury and has nothing to do with the boat. We have owned our share for approx 12 months and have enjoyed several holidays aboard her, as have our grandchildren and we had been looking forward to many years of ownership and we will be sad to see her go. She is a perfect boat for families and beginners as even my 13 year old granddaughter was able to take the helm and manoeuvre her, even turning her around to head back the way we came with minimal help and guidance. The other owners are a friendly bunch who keep in contact and were quick to welcome us into the group. Several of the owners have owned a share since she was launched. The boat is self-managed between the owners and they hold an annual meeting in September or October where they talk through the arrangements for the following year. Everyone has the chance to voice their opinion and decisions are made on a majority vote. About the Sharewe are selling our 1/10th share of Soulbury. This means that Soulbury is owned by 10 owners and all the costs of maintaining the boat and keeping her on the canals are split between the 10 owners. We have a guaranteedsummer holiday share which means that this is a special share guaranteeing us time on the boat during the summer holidays. The boat is self-managed between the owners, reducing costs as there is no management team that needs paying. Dogs are welcome on board but smoking isn’t. Change over day is on a Friday. The boat is currently moored at Aqueduct Marina and after two years (this year is the 2nd) the owners will take a vote on where to move her next or whether to remain where she is. This gives you plenty of time to enjoy the waterways without the risk of having to navigate the same waterway all the time. About the boatSoulbury was built in 1997 and she is 58ft long with 6 berths. She had her engine replaced in 2016 and currently resides at Aquaduct Marina, Church Minshall, Cheshire on the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal. She has been repainted during 2018 winter works. Soulbury has a semi-tradition stern. Steps down into the boat lead into the rear gallery and dinette area with hob, oven, full size sink and drainer, fridge with freezer compartment, solid fuel stove, side hatch and dinette which converts to a double bed. Further along the boat is the bathroom with a shower over a corner bath, pump out toilet and hand basin. In the corridor by the bathroom is an Alde central heating boiler. In the centre of the boat is a fixed double bed that extends to a full 5′ king size. Storage is provided in the wardrobes, under-bed drawers and cubby holes. Further forward is a second pump-out toile (or extra storage are) and then into the front lounge area with flat screen TV/DVD combo. This versatile space has two benches that can be used as single beds, or converted into a large 6′ double. There are wide opening French windows which lead out to the cratch area with no change of floor level. This area also has a cratch cover so the space can be enjoyed, even in bad weather. Booking SystemA booking chart for the following calendar year is circulated in agreed priority order during the autumn and before the owners’ annual meeting in November, where the bookings for the following year are confirmed. Each owner has a priority for that year and moves up a couple of places each year. This means that once an owner has spent a year at the top of the list, they will then move to the bottom and slowly work their way back up to the top taking approx 6 years. Each owner can choose two weeks (either separately or as a fortnight) in the the “high season” (April – October) and one week in the remainder of the year. By this route, thirty-six weeks are firmly booked before the year begins. Allowing time for winter maintenance, the remaining 14 weeks are booked with priority in reverse order to the original chart, so having last choice originally does have it’s compensations. Further weeks may be available but cannot be guaranteed. This share gives you priority for school holidays meaning you will be guaranteed the summer holidays each year!Pre-booked Weeks for 2019Friday 10th May – 17th May 201919th July – 2nd August 2019 (Two weeks school summer holidays)26th October – 1st November 2019 (October half-term)Running CostsThe costs for this year, which are included in the price, were £1,200 plus an additional £300 per share for repainting the exterior of the boat.
