Hello, this is a
sale of a narrowboat (a house boat) for £30800.
Have you ever
thought of living on water? Being close to nature, feeding ducks in the
morning, navigating through canals, built almost 200 years ago and now being
part of heritage, during the day and sleeping with nature at night?
Mallard (wild duck) is a house
on water, a 40 feet narrowboat, retro in style, but with advanced solar system – a cozy floating home for you or few other
persons (comfortably suitable to live for up to three persons). It is ready to move in home – fully functional, furnished with all kitchen
The boat is built in
1975 and renovated numerous times since then. Mallard has a steel bottom and a
fiberglass (glass reinforced plastic, GRP) top.
Mallard has a
comfortable design allowing boating under the roof – it is built with the cabin
in the middle of the boat, enabling a protection from rain and coldness.
Boat is built with 8
solar panels (total 800W) and is one of the kind to be self-sustainable and
environmentally friendly to produce sufficient electricity even during winter
not to run the engine to charge the bateries, apart of when it needs to navigate.
As you enter through
the middle of the boat (can get in from both sides of the boat), you get
straight to the NAVIGATION space, where the boat is controlled. This space has
a steering wheel, engine and batteris under the floor, solar power controller.
This space also contains a convenient portable Thetford toilette, easy to use
and empty out. Here you can take off the shoes, hang your clothes, and a store
tools or other things.
Further you can go
to the BACK cabin of the boat – a separate room, where one or two persons can
have a single or double bed (single at the moment), there is abundance of
storage. Here you can reach a weed hatch at the very back of the boat. Here in
this room one or two persons can have a sleeping and resting space.
Moving from from the
NAVIGATION space pass towards FRONT, on the right side there is a SHOWER room,
with doors to close, washing basin, washing sink and washing/drying machine
under the sink.
As you move forward,
there is a KITCHEN space, with all appliances to prepare food. The galley has a
sink, dual gas/electricity fridge and freezer, a gas oven and a Morco gas
boiler to provide instantly hot water to the shower and sink. It has a table to
dine, few chairs, and lots of drawers to store kitchen equipment.
the kitchen there is a SALON, a space to work, rest, meet friends or to sleep –
it has a single berth that can be transformed into double berth. Space has
drawers and storage space under the bed. In the front you can find a wood and
coal stove/log burner to heat the space during the winter time.
Boat has a standing
height of 5.9 feet from bottom to ceilings inside the boat, thus most persons
could stand without problems.
At the very front
you will have an empty space for things to store or tea to drink during summer,
and a comfortable cover above.
technical perspective, Mallard has 3 Leisure and 1 Started batteries, wired
throughout the boat with 12v and 240v system. You can use a normal home plug to
charge your devices everywhere in the boat. Batteries are isolated with a
switch, so that to have always a reserve charge for the engine to start.
Batteries are connected both to solar charger and engine, thus you can produce
electricity from sun and engine. Solar controller is an advanced MPPT solar
charger, a technique used to maximize power extraction under all conditions.
Due to substantial amount of solar panels on the roof, even during the winter
time or cloudy days you will not need to run the engine to charge batteries at
day time. There is a powerful 2000w inverter with monitor to transform
electricity from 12 to 240v.
The hull (bottom) of
the boat was visually inspected by surveyor (available to see the report only
upon viewing) and renovated 3 years ago. It has been overplated at the back of
the boat and along the middle of the boat. New anodes were fitted and the boat
was blacked in accordance to recommendations. The boat was painted and
renovated from inside. Few other works have to be still done by the marina
(boat centre) in the upcoming summer (recommendation to black the boat every
four or five years to keep a good state), but these are of minor cost and this
is included in the price asked of the boat.
