26ft / 8m Springer narrowboat – part-project. Comfy liveaboard for one person or a couple – low cost living in the country or city – you choose! (And at this size so much easier to find a mooring than with a typical 60ft narrowboat!)
I have been working on this restoration since last summer,
but now about to move overseas with my wife’s job and so run out of time to finish it off – I would call it 80% done in my opinion. (Also this was going to be our son’s “digs” for uni, but now he’s gone off around the world instead (with a girl, so can’t blame him!))
The superstructure & deck paint was removed (i.e. since picture 3 was taken) and is now finished in
red oxide primer ready for your choice of top-coat. (I would think will need a further rub down to get a nice paint finish – depends how fussy you are)
Hull recently blacked
(but needs new anodes). The woodwork paint
could do with a tidy up, but it’s not
The interior is charming and well laid-out (see pics) but
the electric (both 12v & shore-power) circuits will need looking at. Two-berth in the bow, with a third occasional
berth. Nice size loo compartment, (for chemical loo, no holding tank), solid-fuel stove; nice galley with plenty of cupboards, sink, cooker, fridge (not known if either of the appliances work – they look in good condition but they’ve not been tested).
Classic Lister air-cooled two-cylinder diesel which gives
that lovely traditional narrowboat sound. Single-lever control and tiller steering. The engine hasn’t been run for a while but turns over fine. The gearbox bearing definitely needs
attention, and may need replacing, but they are readily available or you can find a whole replacement gearbox on eBay & Gumtree for around £300. I would also check the stern-gland
packing before putting back in the water.
She is not “trad” “semi-trad” or even “cruiser-stern”, but rather has more of a motor-cruiser style cockpit which you stand/sit in rather than “on” – much more secure for young children and far more comfortable seating-wise. This is covered by a full pram-hood style cockpit cover with full headroom – tatty but
it’s functional, (as they say -“it fits where it touches”!), but was on my list of things to upgrade – about £500 for a brand-new custom made job. (Front &
rear canopy windows were replaced (although not very tidily) in March 19)
Basically she is all there as the basis of a charming
floating cottage or easily-handled cruiser – what she needs now is just finishing
off by a sympathetic hand, but would
definitely recommend viewing to get a good sense of what’s needed. (Viewing can be arranged any time and is strongly advised – as they say “you’re bidding to buy not view”).
No reserve, and at the starting price she’s a bargain!
£500 non-refundable deposit within 24hrs of auction end please and balance by PayPal, cash, or bank transfer within 7 days.
She is currently on a concrete hard-standing (so much nicer than muddy grass!) at Church Minshull
Aquaduct Marina (near Nantwich, Cheshire) which costs £160 per month and as far
as I know she can remain there as long as required on the same terms
(electricity & water on hand for working on the boat – water is free,
electric on a pre-payment card. Toilet & showers, elsan point, cafe and chandlery on
site. (I’ll throw in the long hoses needed to reach the boat where she is standing).
She can be launched at the marina (you’ll need to check with them for costs) or loaded by them onto a flat-bed (or is small enough to just be handled by a HIAB-equipped lorry)
Note: I’m not sure if you’re allowed to stay aboard overnight with her out of
the water, but as there is also a caravan park at the marina I can’t imagine why
not, and I’m sure the odd night won’t cause any issues (but you would need to
check with the marina).
Please see my 100% positive feedback as seller, and any question please just ask
NB: For some reason eBay has got it into it’s head that I am a “business seller” – I’m not, I’m just a private individual – but because of this it won’t let me un-tick “returns accepted”, so to be clear she is being sold “as is, where is”, any sale is final, and returns are NOT accepted
