Much loved Narrowboat “Speedwell” built by Springer in 1980.More pictures coming soon. She is 36′ long and has undergone an over the top Bristol fashion bare metal refit completed in 2016 with a 100% over plating to 4 inches above the water line.I am a Maintenance engineer working on heavy equipment, boats and ships, I worked on and oversaw the entire rebuild.Hull was already in great condition to start with! I took her out to replace the uxter plate which had pinholed from the inside and down to 4.2mm in places. this was due to standing water being left on top of the plate around the weed hatch and under the fuel tank. I have a friend with a gantry crane so it turned into a full plating job over the entire hull. Before starting the job I surveyed the hull with ultrasonics, everything apart from the uxter plate was like new, over 6mm. The hull was shot blasted and coated with a high zinc primer to weld through. It was then plated over with another 6mm. No expense was spared with the welding, puddle welded plates with as many low hydrogen rods as she needed to fill out any chamfer. Giving you effectively a 12mm hull! Lots of facing welds were used to build up extra protection in potential contact points such as the prow and skeg should she ever run into something solid dumped in the cut. This boat is built like a battleship! After the over plate she was shot blasted to SA2 then immediately coated with a Sherwin Williams epoxy system with a few extra coats on top, the topsides are done in many coats of HMG coach enamel. The interior was treated to a tanic acid wash then red primer and a cosmoline type coating, the floor was done in the same manner but with an odorless bitumastic type coating. Ballast is mainly scrap steel machine shop billets with some concrete slabs under the galley and shower room.Insulation is two layers of 25mm celotex from the floor up to the gunwales and a single layer from there to the roof.Lining is tanalised framing onto welded tags with 9mm outdoor ply then another layer of 9mm American oak faced ply on top. The very secure steel doors are lined with solid oak and use large steel shot bolts with a mauer 4 pin, 12 lever safe room lock on the rear.Galley units are solid birch faced outdoor ply topped with solid beech worktops.Electrics are tucked under the gunwales inside trunking for easy maintenance. Battery set up is a little unusual, I use nearly new car starter batteries from scrap yards which can be obtained for £10 each so the entire bank of batteries costs the same as just one “deep cycle” battery, I replaced the entire set last week after getting 4 years out of the first set! She also has a 24v bank exclusively for the diesel heater.Features:-Galley units are solid birch faced outdoor ply topped with solid beech worktops.Curtains are professionally made out of a very high quality material with a heavy black out liner running on Teflon impregnated glass fibre rodsWindows were replaced with new from channelglazeElectrics are tucked under the gunwales inside trunking for easy maintenance. LED tunnel flood lights with large Francis fire engine search light (not connected although wiring is in place, the LED ones are enough for me)Propane gas regulator with automatic change over and bubble testers.Estimate the water tank is somewhere over 200litres, it lasts two weeks and has a filtered vent.Fuel tank is new with baffle plate and secure aluminum motor racing fuel filler with spill catcher, will be full to the brim!BMC 1.5 engine with raw water cooling 110a alternator, double pulley modification with extra aux belt capacity if you want to add something else in the future. Oversized air filter with remote extension, stainless volvo wet silencer, she gets gets lots of compliments on the sound and how quiet she is. Having an engine room means she gets lots of TLCRaw water cooling system has quick release hose and large strainer.Large ammeter and volt meter to monitor battery charge.Automatic bilge pump with electromagnetic solid state level switch and manual over ride switchThere is wiring for an inverter of any size even though I don’t use it myself and I will provide a 600w inverter although they are very poplar they also shorten the life of batteries, it is much better practice to get DC-DC converters for your plug in gadgets, having said that the 12v microwave does use its own built in inverter. There is a stainless steel Pullman carriage style sink for the shower room which is not yet plumbed in, can be done if full asking price is offered.Lots of extra spare parts including a spare Rinnaiwater heaterWaterways license runs out at the end of December and she has about 2 years left on the BSS cert which of course she flies through.I am sure there are many more features I have forgotten to list.Being a professional sailor and MCA Boatmaster I will offer boating lessons to the new owner and will deliver to anywhere on the connected canal network if full asking price if offered. This boat is an absolute pleasure to cruise with, the tiller runs inside a large bushing to make it very smooth and all controls are within easy reach. The elevated rear deck gives a commanding view of the canal and the rear bench with solid English oak seats gives you a comfortable place to sit. The tiller has two handles, a short one for marina work and a long one for cruising. The wide gunwales are safe to walk along with the hand rails during cruising. This is a go anywhere boat, she fits though standedge tunnel and any lock, with a 16″ draught and chined hull, her size also makes it very easy single handed. Selling as she is rarely used.
