Hello and Thank you for viewing my advert. After 2 years of living on the canals and waterways, it is now time for me to sell my lovely little canal boat. Named Gunship Nutmeg, this is a 38 Foot Springer and would make a lovely little home for the right person. Given its size, its a great boat to handle in locks as its light and you can often moor where others cant – you also can sometimes spin around without a winding hole dependant on which canal you are on. You will get everything in the boat, I am only looking to take my clothes and personal effects so whoever takes this over will be able to keep on cruising with little to no input required. All furniture and Futon sleeper couch is included. Given the open plan nature and limited installed furniture (the kitchen counter is really it) you can change this around to your choice. I liked having a sofa and work table, but you can make the boat feel bigger by doing away with these. I would class this as a mostly finished project and who ever takes this over, if you are handy, can finish it to your standards. That said, it is perfectly comfortable as it is – hence I haven’t finished it as on sunny days when the weather is fine, its difficult not to just go and sit on the back deck and have a beer! This is a cruiser stern Springer – I believe originally built circa 1968 (when steel was actually still good!). The last owner had her completely underplated in about 2019. Entering from the back of the boat, you will note an open plan layout which maximises the space available, all plumbing and wiring is “exposed” so that when (not if) there is a problem you don’t have to dig behind the cladding. to the left is a wet room style head with shower and cassette toilet, moving forward is the galley and then saloon and double bed at the bow. This is an ottoman so it is handy for storage. I welded over the well deck to give a bit more space inside the boat and am glad I did. There is also a hatch on the front so you can open this in Summer and a cooling breeze blows through the boat. Good things: – Large water Tank (I get about 2 weeks of usage including running a top loading washing machine). There is also a spare 125litre water tank on the roof but you can get rid of this should want as its just freestanding. It comes in real handy in Winter – not so much in Summer for me as I normally cruise a lot more so water points are never a problem. – 450W of solar panels means you are completely off grid for most of the year (March to end Oct)- 200aH Lithium Ion Leisure Battery. If you are unfamiliar with this type of battery, it offers a lot of benefits over the more traditional lead acid batteries including charging faster, lasting longer and you can completely deplete these with no damage to the battery unlike lead acid ones- Top loading 7kg Hotpoint washing machine. This is a real advantage over other boats where you are constantly traipsing off to the laundromat or hand washing. Its a brilliant little machine and gets your clothes nice and clean. – 3000W inverter to power any 240V electronics such as washing machine or hot water boiler- 850W hot water boiler – this little bad boy heats 14L of water up to 70 degrees (hand hot is 40 degrees) so even though its volume is small, you use less of it when showering. You can easily have a hot shower and do a load of dishes off of one “charge” before needing to heat it again. It is insulated as well so water stays hot for up to 24 hours. – No gas boat. This makes things like BSS a doddle as there is no gas which is one of the main testing points (and failures) in the Boat Safety Scheme. – Reliable Lister ST2 “twin pot” engine. While these engines are a little older and louder than modern ones, these are known to be bullet proof given they are so simple. You can easily (and I would recommend) service these yourself. They just keep going. – 2000W suitcase generator that is whisper quiet in generator terms and comes in handy in Winter when there is not much sun around. Given the Lithium battery, you only need to run this for an hour or 1.5 hours a day rather than others reliant on lead acid who need to run theirs for many more hours to have the same charge effect. This was my experience in Winter while working from home full time as well as having my fridge running full time as well. – 5KW Morso Squirrel multi fuel stove which keeps the boat toasty and warm in Winter. – Gold licence (allows you to use EA and CRT canals valid up until the end of Dec and is transferrable with boat sale). – 12v Television- 12v Fridge – 240 sockets as well as 12v sockets dotted around the boat Average bits: – I have not finished painting the interior and the exterior needs to be completed with a third coat. – Where I have welded over the well deck to create more internal space, I have insulated this but it is not cladded – this will need to be done- Wiring needs to be “cleaned up” to make it look prettier. It is all fully functional, but I am rubbish at aesthetics. – Back deck could be replaced at some point in the future. I bought it with that board and had intended to replace with phenolic ply but never got round to it. Bad bits: – Cant really think of any other than the boat needs a BSS examination done. It has recently run out but due to a change in circumstances I cannot complete this myself as I need to move back to land urgently hence being priced to Sell. Other things to think about: I have often wondered if I should install gas hob/oven and hot water but didn’t really need it so didn’t bother. Perhaps this is something the next owner would like to do. I have often wondered if installing a back boiler on the Morso stove would be a good idea. It seems a waste to lose that potential energy/hot water in Winter. Reason for selling: This was a financial instrument for me and one that has been successful as I saved a lot by not paying rent. I now need to move back to land. Whoever takes this boat on will get a LOT of boat for their money so am not interested in negotiating. I am aware of what I have and simply looking for a quick sale, not someone to low ball me on an already good deal. All sales are final and no returns are offered. Advertised elsewhere so advert may be taken down at any time.
