Thank Goodness It’s “Friday”!
Now offered at an unrepeatable £28,975 due to an imminent move with my new job, too far from the vast network of canals and waterways.
This really is The time of year when this way of life is just THE BEST! The pace is easier & gentle, everybody you meet is in a good mood, and if you like, you can be the centre of attention taking all your friends on their own private cruise or just take it easy and travel the waterways to find a perfect spot for a picnic on your own or with your favourite special someone.
“Friday” is unique. Originally built in 1969 by Peter Keay’s company, she was one of only two wooden boats built specifically for leisure rather than hauling coal or other goods, which is evident in the attention to detail of her build such as her subtle curves and arching bow.
Much like the viking ships that conquered the world, she is constructed entirely of wood and when totally renovated in 2012 the entire structure was strengthened with a full length steel spine and the hull survey commissioned by me in 2014 commented on the great integrity of the solid oak & elm base sheathed in a durable heavy duty zinc plating – a belts and braces approach to ensure a long new lease of life.
Powered by a gentle, characterful, two cylinder Lister Diesel engine, life on board can be taken at your own pace, but with modern facilities such as a gas fired boiler, electric oven, a fridge freezer and four ring gas hob you can live on board without compromising on those convenient ‘home comforts’. There’s a separate shower room with a luxurious power shower, hand basin and cassette style WC and in the living/sleeping area there are numerous 240V, 13 amp plug sockets dotted around for everything the modern day demands, Friday is perfectly capable of providing some really unique living and/or work space or as a centre for some well earned peace and quiet away from all the noise and bother associated with modern life.
The high quality interior fittings are lovely and as well as a skylight and double doors at either end to open up the interior to warm sunshine, there is also a lovely wood burning stove fitted with a back boiler feeding two radiators for when the nights draw in and you want to light a few candles for a cosy evening. And with living costs of only £240 a month including gas, electric, fuel, licencing, permanent mooring, insurance and upkeep (blacking etc.) she really is a great way to untether yourself from the stress and costs of more conventional living.
We have enjoyed living aboard and traveling locally over the past 6 years and although she’s now moored close to the World Heritage Site of Saltaire in West Yorkshire on the Leeds Liverpool canal, the beauty of a narrow boat is that she can be located just about anywhere, from fashionable London Locks to the hustle and bustle of a Yorkshire Dales market town like Skipton or a trendy, alternative hipster centre like Hebden Bridge – The choice could be yours!

“Friday” is a very special boat and she’s looking for another worthy custodian, so please give me a call, preferably after normal business hours and come to see what fun you could have with your new life afloat.
