Traditional 45ft narrowboat built in 1990, neat size, easy to steer, turn anywhere and moor with ease. Wild Iris is an ideal first boat, bright on the darkest days and with exceptionally practical layout. Set up for easiest off grid living, with high spec solar for electricity.
Blacked and new anodes Aug 2017, Boat Safety Certificate valid until Nov 2022 and Gas Safety Inspection Report issued Nov 2018.
Wild Iris has a lovely homely feel with beautiful original oak parquet wooden floors, solid pine doors and solid oak kitchen counters. She has a sociable layout with a kitchen opening onto the bow (front) deck with space to sit and enjoy the view. Freshly decorated and ready to move in and enjoy cruising.
The well laid out kitchen has a full size stainless steel sink with mixer tap, Morco instant hot water boiler, full size fully functional domestic gas oven, opposite two large cupboards under solid oak counter top and full size AA energy class fridge.
Open plan kitchen and living area has a well maintained Morso Squirrel multi fuel stove (installed 2018 and freshly swept) surrounded by rustic terracotta tiles and drop leaf table that seats three under the lovely double door hatch. Opposite is a single futon used as sofa, with comfy foam back cushion that adds extra comfort when used as a mattress topper when used as a spare bed. Deep shelves fitted for books and storage below the sofa for shoes, fire wood etc.
Adorable asymmetric door between living space and bathroom. Bathroom has a sink in bespoke solid oak and panelled bathroom unit with shelf and plenty of storage, a full size shower with instant hot water from the Morco boiler in the kitchen, good pressure from the newly fitted water pump (professionally fitted June 2019). Freestanding Kildwick Koodle Mini separating compost toilet with white gelcoat (bought in Nov 2017).
Double wood doors onto bedroom recently relined in BB grade birch plywood and well insulated with full size double bed with a clean foam mattress (has been covered with topper), fitted with 6 drawers underneath and large storage space behind and access to the cabin bilge inspection hatch. Double doors lead to the engine room and stern. The stern hatch has a professionally fitted lock that can be opened from the inside for safety.
The engine is a BMC 1.5, with new gear box and alternator (fitted Aug 2017) which charges the starter and leisure batteries each time you move or run the engine for additional battery charge for domestic electric. Large tilting solar panels charge the batteries between moves and I haven’t found the need to run the engine much for extra power.
Lighting is all low energy led running off the 12v system along with the water pump and shower gulper. The recently professionally fitted (2017) wiring gives you loads of double sockets in each room running through the Victron invertor.
The roof has been recently professionally taken back to steel, rust treated and painted (Sept 2018) and I have a good quote and contact for the rest to be painted by the same person.
Steel doors have been professionally fitted with locks and bolts that make it impossible to tell if you’re in or not, far safer than padlocks.

The price reflects that some work needs to be carried out, none of which have inhibited my constant cruising and could be done when budget allows:
– Blacking of the hull, last done in Aug 2017
– Painting of external cabin sides, decks and gunwales
– Rewiring the battery monitor and electric horn and navigation lights.
– Engine needs a little TLC, but nothing a day with good mechanic wouldn’t fix in a day. There’s a minor slow oil leak drip, hard to reach and fix if you’re not a pro. Slight movement/rattle due to the rubber mounts perishing. Seeping leak from the skin tank, that’s been patched but could be welded for a longer term fix.
– Filling of some wobbly parquet floor areas
Wild Iris is a lovely homely boat and I will be sad to leave her, but very happy to pass on to new hands. If you’re new to boating I can do a day’s hand over with you, going through a few locks and getting water topped up etc.
Looking to sell quickly and so a keen cash offer will be given consideration.
