First off – the important stuff: This is an ebay auction and will be conducted
as per their rules. It is a ten-day
auction with a reserve price of £18,000.
The winning bidder will be expected to make payment immediately and
collect the boat within one week. I will
respond to all questions/queries as soon as possible, but I will IGNORE any
‘offers’ or buy it now requests so please save both our time! I also have to reserve the right to end this auction early
as canal community aware boat is up for sale..
With that clear, let’s proceed. We are running this auction as one off before
sending our boat to brokerage, mainly because we have a new boat and don’t have
time to invest in making her all shiny before selling her. This also means that she is a bit rough
around the edges, although she’s rather a sweet girl at heart and will
certainly command a good price from brokers.
I hope that my description is both accurate and honest in every respect
(warts and all), but would expect potential buyers to view first.
Opus is a 45ft Peter Nicholls narrowboat, built in 1984 and
has been our home for the past three years.
We are selling as we have just purchased a bigger boat. My personal view is that she would make an
ideal home for a liveaboard couple, particularly if on a marina and hooked up
to 240v. That said, we have cruised her
a great deal and she’s never let us down and we have survived without a hook-up
since owning her.
DETAILS: Designed in
‘tug style’, Opus is a compact 45ft Trad narrowboat built with 7mm steel all
round. She had her baseplate plated in
1999 and was surveyed in 2013. That
survey showed minimal thinning of the steel to 6.1mm at thinnest on sides,
which is more than many are built with now.
BSS expires Dec 2019. Engine is a
Mitsubishi KM4, regularly serviced and very reliable. Batteries are unusually situated in front
well deck and are 4 x 115Amp AGM. Gas is
LPG with 3 x 6KG bottles – Gas locker rebuilt in Nov 2017 when she was also
blacked. Sale includes 6 x solar panels
and MPPT controllers plus 1800w Sterling inverter which is NOT sine-wave so
doesn’t work some things (microwave included).
Also has Alde central heating boiler.
Exterior: As per
pictures. Why repaint when new owner may
prefer a different colour? She’s tidy
enough but removing graphics from side has taken some of the top coat paint
off. The thing you might notice ‘Ted the
Shed’ on the front. This is a practical
solution to the boat’s lower profile and provides extra storage and a dry
smoking area! Can be removed fairly
easily if you wanted a trad cratch cover but would recommend keeping him.
Interior: As per
pictures, brief walk-though as follows:
Entering lounge, three seater sofa bed provides two extra
berths, 12v TV/DVD mounted to wall, new fire and flue fitted December 2018, fold
down desk/table, bookcases and storage.
Kitchen has an abundance of storage with a Vanette LPG stove
that is brilliant but ignition doesn’t work.
Microwave included plus assorted pots and pans etc. Now, the important bit -Fridge doesn’t
work! It’s only two years old and is an
Inlander fridge freezer but is flashing with two lights which we think means
the fan needs replacing. We are not
replacing as new owner may prefer 240v fridge but have left in if you want to
get it repaired.
Bathroom is fantastic!
Decent shower, two storage units, Alde gas heating, large sink with
vanity unit and Dometic ceramic bowl cassette toilet with two cassettes (so
good we’ve just put one on the new boat!).
Bedroom: Fixed double
with storage underneath and overhead. Mattress
was new three years ago and is perfectly serviceable but hey … it’s not
beautiful. End of bedroom leads to
covered engine area.
Other: Led lights throughout plus plenty of 240v sockets for
use when hooked up. One radiator in
lounge but log burner is a 8Kw so you won’t be cold.
And finally – message me with any queries and should you be
interested in viewing, I will walk you through her and point out the little
niggly quirks that mean she’s not perfect but none of which are a major problem
(she is 35 years old after all!).
Honesty is the best policy and I won’t mess you around although I hope
I’ve covered most in this long description.
Thank you for your interest.
