Traditional Tug Style narrowboat with portholes, powered by a 4 cylinder Perkins 4108M 1.8 Diesel unit with large propeller which means the craft has good power and control for both canal and river travel.Constructed by Black Country Narrowboats (Rosie & Jim Boat fame) in 1988 ‘Maximus’ has a very attractive look with tapered curves, portholes and side hatch. The boat is fitted with all of its original fittings, oven, stove, fridge & Paloma water heater.Other fittings include:Small 5Kwh multifuel stove (approx. 6 years old with minimal use)Sea toilet with holding tankShower / washbasinFixed double bed two bunks to frontTwin leisure batteriesStarter battery (New)Twin water tanks located at the front of the craft under the cratch cover.Twin 3.9 kg propane gas cylinders within steel locker. Gang plank (unused)PoleThe interior is timber panelled with movable table which can be located within the craft dining area or under the cratch cover.
Constructed with a 10mm thick steel baseplate, 8mm thick sides and 6mm roof. The boat was last Surveyed June 2004 where several readings were taken using a thickness gauge which recorded no less that 7.25mm, a loss of only 2.75mm in 16 years.
Since the 2004 Survey they craft had the hull Epoxy coated, the then owner specialising in marine corrosion as a profession. During my ownership over the last 10 years the boat has done few trips spending the majority of time at the mooring.
This is a fantastic craft who will appeal to anyone who likes the traditional look with a practical engine. The length means you can turn the craft more easily and has proved itself year round as lots of fun. Sadly after nearly 10 years of ownership a young family and lack of time means the craft needs a new owner. The advised price takes into account the requirement for a re-paint and touch up to the Epoxy coating to the hull. Odd bits of internal TLC (some water pipework) required but nothing complicated. If self painted this is a real bargain when compared to the price of similar boats, many of which are not nearly as attractive.
Mooring:The Current mooring is location within easy reach of Reading town centre:
Approx. 10 mins by car & 16 mins by bus or bicycle.A Water & Electric point is located next to the boat. The mooring is gated with parking and the boats are located down a private towpath.
Cunning Man Pub is only a 10 minute walk from the boat!
