Reluctantly putting my 48′ narrowboat William for sale. This is a really nice boat that I have owned since 2016 and lived aboard for extended periods of time while moored in a really lovely spot on Port Meadow, Oxford. The boat was built by Ironworks in 1992 and has a steel hull with marine ply cabin top. The roof is fibreglass encapsulated. The original owner was a carpenter by trade and worked on narrowboats so he evidently wanted to do his own custom job on his own boat. The result is a lovely quality of fit out with a lot of bespoke features. Although the top is wooden, the ply is of a high quality and this obviously makes a big difference. I have stripped it back to bare wood and repainted it once in five years and the ply was still in excellent condition. The boat is also a lot warmer and less damp as a result. The boat was expressly built for the original owner to live aboard and features a very large water tank which is a real boon when long term cruising. I had the boat surveyed when bought in 2016 and the hull was found to be in good condition. I can supply a copy of this survey. The interior features a decent sized living area with an integrated sofa that can also serve as a decent sized single bed. Aft of this is the galley with a gas cooker and oven in good condition. Beyond this is a bathroom with a decent shower using a Morco gas boiler to heat the water. The boiler has been regularly serviced. The toilet is a Thetford Cassette one.At the back is a double bedroom with the double running crossways across the boat. There is ample storage throughout. The engine is an old school Lister Petter SW2 which is absolutely indestructible and runs at a pleasingly leisurely pace. I had this fully stripped and serviced when I bought the boat in 2016 and the head gasket was replaced. I have never had a problem with the engine since. The boats in a lovely mooring looking up the river from Bossoms Boat Yard at Port Meadow, Oxford. Although the mooring is not included in the sale as such, it would be possible to retain in the spot once sold. Mooring fees are about £2,500 per year which isn’t bad given you are in the heart of Oxford. The boat could do with being blacked as I haven’t had it slipped since May 2016.This is a really nice narrowboat. I essentially used it as a second home when I was required to work in Oxford. Since Covid, this has no longer been necessary so that is why I am thinking of selling it. The boat is not perfect and it’s worth noting that’s no longer furnished. That said, you could take it out for a cruise as soon as you step aboard and it is already a comfortable home. With minimal work, it is a superb boat in a great location. Boat Safety is valid until 2024.
