Narrowboat for sale!
JENNY BEE
A delightful, open plan narrowboat up for sale. Jenny bee has been an amazing home for the past three years and we are very proud of this boat!
At 50 foot it’s the perfect size vessel – large enough to feel spacious inside but also very easy to use to navigate the canal network! Both of us have comfortably cruised single handed and Jenny bee has taken us from London to Bath on an amazing journey. Myself, my partner and our ships cat Salem set off from a mooring in West London with no destination in mind we ended up travelling up the grand union canal, down the Oxford canal to the Thames which we navigated from Oxford to reading where we found ourselves feeling most at home cruising the Kennet and Avon canal.
THE EXTERIOR
From the outside Jenny Bee looks smart! She often receives comments along the cut and ‘thats a tidy boat’ is frequently complimented to her smart exterior! Jenny bee is a traditional style boat with a internal engine bay. The benefits of having an internal engine bay is that is easier to keep clean and dry improving the overall life of the engine. Jenny bee is entered at the Bow of the boat through a very practical catch cover which provides a useful storage space in the winter and a lovely place to sit and enjoy the long evenings in the the spring, summer and autumn !
THE ENGINE
The engine was replaced in 2017, out with the old, haggard and unreliable BMC 1.5 and in with a Barrus Shire! And excellent choice and one we have applauded ourselves on numerous times. The new engine is reliable, clean and much quieter than its predecessor. This engine has not let us down and has low mileage on the clock so will prove reliable for many years to come. When the engine was replaced the engine bay was cleaned primed and painted and whilst investing in the boat we added in an inspection hatch to the weed hatch – a necessity on all boats but not something we have ever had to use. The engine room provides more excellent inside storage for all your tools or anything that needs to stay dry!
THE HULL AND THE SURVEY – Completed less than 3 years ago we have a full survey which you are welcome to view and keep upon sale. The hull had been overplated previously and came off well in the survey. We had the boat blacked in September at Semington dry dock where we were pleased to hear had shown no signs of change since the survey. When we had the inspection hatch put in our engineer was ecstatic with our good quality steel!
THE HEATING
Jenny bees true test of warmth came this winter with the oh so dreaded ‘beast from the east’ hit Wiltshire… She passed that test with flying colours. We kept the kabola old Dutch on and it did a grand job of keeping us warm along with the new radiator in the bedroom which runs directly off the engine to use the heat produced from running it for electricity.
Back to the kabola, which is a very clean and efficient way of heating a narrowboat. Boats like to be kept at a steady temperature and unless your one for waking up during the night to stoke a fire you will love the kabola. Once lit it’s recommended it’s turned off once every 2 weeks either for a quick clean or too add a cleaning tablet. Switch it back on an enjoy the steady warmth and lovely blue flame.
THE INTERIOR
A clean bright interior, Jenny bee boats big windows and a modern feel! A brand new vinyl floor was fitted recently. We purchased one with extra durability and a 25 year quality promise. The galley is well placed at the centre of the boat next to the side hatch. The galley has a full sized gas oven with 4 hobs – perfect for cooking every day. Next to the kitchen is a floor to ceiling pantry cupboard an absolute luxury on a narrowboat especially when you are fully stocked on cupboard basics and moored up the serenity of the quiet English countryside. Space for a full size fridge or a small fridge freezer.
BATHROOM
After the kitchen is a pleasant bathroom plenty of room for a shower, a elsan toilet (by far superior to the rather smelly pump out toilets) a sink and again lots of strorage.
INSTANT HOT WATER
In the bathroom there is a PALMOA an excellent narrowboat solution for instant hot water. Runs off a glass bottle stored in the Bow cupboard. The hot water is quick an easy. We use about 4-5 gas bottles a year for showering, washing up and cooking
THE CABIN
Following on from the bathroom there is a spacious bedroom! Such a refreshing change from the teeny tiny cabins of most Narrowboats. A comfortable 4ft double bed and a free standing clothes rail. This space could easily fit a wardrobe or chest of drawers instead.
BOAT OWNERSHIP
You can buy Jenny Bee in safe knowledge of our ownership of the boat in full. We are very luck to have paperwork which shows full ownership as not all boats for sale have this!
THE SETUP Jenny bee was once a holiday boat built to cruise the Aylesbury arm and this is how she spent many years. Until she was brought by the previous owner who adapted the boat to continuously cruise through London! This boat is well suited to become a weekend retreat or liveabord home.
