Due to buying a larger live-aboard boat, we are offering for sale, our
50ft, reverse layout, narrow boat the ‘Nauti Dog’, which we have owned since
Built around 1978 by Harborough Marine, the ‘Nauti Dog’ has been well
looked after and much improved by both the previous and current owners. The
internal décor is maintained to a high standard and she has proved to be a
warm, cosy and homely boat, suited to all year round use.
She has a boat safety certificate until 2020.
She is constructed of a steel hull with a GRP cabin. In 2007 the hull
was stripped back to the bare steel and she was over plated with a 6mm x 200mm
shoe which was welded right round the base and the same up the sides. She has
since had her hull blacked on a three yearly basis, with no issues of concern
arising. The Hull was last blacked in 2017. The rear deck has been refitted
with steel deck bracing and new gas lockers.
The original twin fuel tanks have been removed and a new tank fitted. A
new bottom rudder bearing was welded to the skeg some years ago and the rudder
extended back four inches towards the propeller, to increase manoeuvrability.
The prop shaft stern gland packing was replaced a few years ago; and a new
exhaust pipe was recently fitted. New automatic bilge pumps were also recently
She had a full professional repaint, in traditional red and green
colours, three years ago; and the current owners have kept up to touching her
up ever since! There is are fitted covers for both the bow and stern decks.
Much of the roof is covered in vinyl matting which protects the
paintwork. She has two large roof boxes which provide copious
storage. She also has two solar panels, in combination, providing up
to 280 watts of power.
The engine is a Lister SR2 air-cooled diesel and is both reliable and as
strong as an ox; and has been regularly serviced and maintained by a
There are three 110Ah leisure batteries in addition to the starter
battery. She is also fitted with a shoreline hook-up and galvanic isolator
which provide a 240 volt circuit for use when in marinas.
In 2013, the interior was stripped out including the floor. All ballast
was removed and the bilge cleaned out. The ballast was replaced and a new 18mm
treated marine grade ply floor installed. The hull and cabin are completely
insulated with foil backed Navy Board; and the cabin is ply lined and carpeted
below the gunnels; with tongue and groove up planking, painted on the walls and
varnished on the ceiling.
She has been re-wired and re-plumbed, including 12v LED lighting
throughout. New curtains and fiddle rails are fitted to all windows; and there
are bespoke polycarbonate secondary glazing units for all windows (good for
winter use), which attach to frames magnetically. There is similarly a
polycarbonate glazing unit for the stern door which means even in winter the
doors can be opened to allow warm sunlight in whilst keeping cold drafts out
(also useful for preventing the dogs running off down the towpath!!).
Stepping down from the rear deck the control panel, which includes a
Merlin Smart Gauge (useful for monitoring battery charge levels); the display
meter for the solar panel charge controller and a remote electronic fuel gauge,
is to the right.
There is a useful cupboard for hanging coats to the left.
The living area is next. There is a three seater, a ‘click-clack sofa
bed, a Cello 12volt TV/DVD combi; and various rustic coffee tables and
shelving. Heating is provided by a superb Lockgate Refeks diesel stove which is
also useful for stove-top cooking. The stove has a built in back boiler, though
the owners have never found the need to connect it to a radiator system.
Next comes the galley, which has new oak worktops and chalk painted
cupboards to both sides, a stainless steel sink and mixer tap and a Morco
boiler, which provides hot water to the sink and shower. There is a three way,
Electrolux gas under-counter fridge and a Vanette GG7000 oven and grill with a
separate hob insert in the worktop.
Next comes the bathroom with shower and toilet, the shower tray is
1200cm x 600cm, large for a narrowboat and the Morco boiler provides an
excellent shower. The toilet is Natures Head dry composting loo, complete with
a second (unused) composting bin.
The bedroom is next with a second click clack sofa bed, which the
current owners have only ever used as a fixed double bed, with plenty of storage
space underneath. There are a couple of wall mounted rustic storage unit. A
recently installed, new water pump is also under the bed and very
A door leads out onto the front well deck, which again has been renewed with
18mm Vanel Ply. There are storage lockers both sides and a door to further
storage under the bow deck. Below the deck is a new 55-gallon water tank
supplying the sink and shower. On the bow deck there is a new horn and tunnel
