Sherwood is a semi-traditional 52 foot boat built by Harborough Marine circa 1994 and is an ideal liveaboard boat for someone who is ready to move aboard straightaway without any delays in waiting for surveys or repair work due to the excellent survey report that came back in May 2018 which is available on request. This would be perfect for someone looking for a robust and trouble free boat to serve them for years to come. She has been owned and looked after by a professional narrowboat management company for almost the last ten years who have ensured that her well built exterior and well fitted interior have been maintained to the highest of standards. Sherwood combines the best parts of having a boat with a modern, water cooled four cylinder engine with the most maintenance free interior systems possible to minimise the risk of any hiccups whether out cruising or moored up. The boat is tastefully painted in a navy coach paint with red gunwhales and bow. The roof is painted in a practical grey colour which minimises the effects from the heat of the sun in summer and gives good service when using it for outdoor storage. The roof has several standard 5” brass mushroom ventilators fitted, giving ample ventilation at high level. A solar panel coupled to a PWM controller is fitted to keep the batteries topped up when the boat is left idle. Fitted to the bow of the boat is a hardwood cratch board, with the headlight fitted and supporting a black waterproof cratch cover over the well deck with side opening zipper “doors” that can be rolled up and tucked away during the summer months for ventilation. A new U shaped fender has recently been fitted as well as a good quality mooring line. Fitted to the gunwhale on the starboard side is the water tank fill and overflow points. Sherwood is fitted with four medium sized aluminium hopper windows per side whereby the top section of glass can be removed for additional ventilation on hot summer days. Moving toward the stern there is a traditional raised sliding top hatch and opening double doors for access into the boat. There is a small seating area for visitors, which underneath provides ample storage for the battery bank and on the port side, cruising equipment. Sherwood has been fitted with a modern water cooled Beta Marine 40Hp engine, coupled to a PRM gearbox and high output domestic alternator. A new exhaust was also fitted as well as stern gland packing and all required maintenance items were also done at this time ensuring that the engine bay is presented in a clean and organised manner for any work that needs to be undertaken by professionals in the future. Entering through the stern doors you are presented with the bedroom with clothes storage to starboard and storage for the hot water tank and small cruising items to port. The bedroom contains a 4ft double bed, with a little-used mattress which has always been used with complete zip-in mattress protectors. The passageway continues on the port side with a slimline wooden door to separate the bathroom and bedroom if necessary. Next is the bathroom, which is small but practically laid out with room and facilities to accommodate a small washing machine with storage above should the new owner so desire. Sherwood is fitted with a shower tray, small vanity unit and a “dump-through” pump out toilet which requires no electrical components such as macerators or pumps which could cause the system to fail. Nevertheless, she also has a spare cassette toilet carried on board should there ever be an issue with the pump out system. Continuing onto the galley there is a combined propane twin oven, grill and 4 ring burner hob fitted to the immediate starboard side with basic storage above. The kitchen storage is simple but practical and is on both port and starboard sides with a passageway in the centre. The floors throughout are easy-clean click together wood effect vinyl. The saloon will provide ample seating space for two, with the current futon folding out to a spare single bed. Corner units at the bow end provide the storage for electrical items and the fresh water pump. The room is lined with hardwood faced ply from the gunwhale up to the roof, with grey insulated textile carpet below the gunwhale. The Morso squirrel stove occupies the most practical space that it could behind the kitchen wall, providing ample heat to the whole boat. Onward through the front double doors there is the generously sized well deck with useful storage come seating areas. The fresh water tank resides below. Sherwood’s heating and hot water systems are very comprehensive and should be completely maintenance free for years to come. The ubiquitous and ever popular Morso squirrel stove is fitted with a 2.5kW boiler, coupled to large bore copper pipe. This copper pipe passes through all of the rooms on the boat including all of the clothes and linen storage areas, effectively acting as a combined radiator and towel rail, evenly distributing the heat throughout. It travels onward to the bedroom where it then heats the generously sized hot water tank. The system is of a gravity fed, open-vented design with no electrical pumps or valves required. It will serve the boat without any power or mechanical parts making it the simplest and most fail safe heating system available. Heating the hot water this way also vastly cuts down on the yearly gas cost. In addition to this, the Beta engine also heats the hot water on a warm day in around an hour, so in summer months a full tank can be achieved in minimal time. The hot water tank is also doubly insulated to hold the heat for as long as possible. . Sherwood is fitted with a standard 12V system connected to decent battery bank as well as a 240V system which is currently running from a 600W inverter although shore power inputs are available should you wish to run higher current items from a generator. 12V and 240V sockets are provided throughout the boat. In summary; Sherwood is a robustly designed and built, open plan boat whose systems are meant to be bulletproof whether living aboard as a couple or individual or indeed using her as a spacious holiday boat. Priced to sell the current owners are open to offers on a boat that is literally ready to move straight onto. She may be delivered to anywhere in the London or Home counties subject to winter stoppages and additional cost. Please contact to book a viewing or request the survey. It is expected that the next viewing day will be on 1st December in the Watford area although one to one viewings can be arranged during the week in the evenings or during the day if required given ample notice.
