55ft Old Quirky Narrow BoatI have owned this narrowboat for coming up to three years now. I believe the boat was built in the late 70’s as a 40ft holiday boat with a wooden cabin. The previous owner had the boat stretched to 55ft by skipton cruiser sometime 15-20 years ago. And he had a metal A frame welded in over the new section to make it look like the hold of a working boat. I bought it in Barnoldswick in 2016 and moved it to Nantwich that same year. And then I took it out of the water. It is currently sitting in a DIY boat repair yard the storage fees are roughly £190 a month (including water and leccy is on a meter). I have rebuilt the rear cabin with thick iroko tongue and groove planks on the sides. The roof is pine with fibreglass on top. The front cabin has been clad in western red cedar and has large vertical opening windows and skylights. The hull has pitting and the sacrificial chime has been sacrificed but having said that it is solid old steel. The engine is a single cylinder Sabb, these engines are very simple and reliable and they make a lovely pot pot sound. It ran faultlessly on the cruise from Barnoldswick to Nantwich but I haven’t run in two years so it probably needs a service and a few cranks to get it running again. Please only contact me if you are genuinely interested in buying or you have something nice to say. I realise its not everyone’s cup of tea. The price is what I’m willing to sell it for at the moment. I haven’t completely given up on the project but if someone’s willing to pay the asking price then I’ll let it go. I genuinely have sunk a lot of money and time into this over the past 3 years. The project should be easier once the cabin is finished.
