For sale is our 54.6 ft Traditional Stern Narrowboat, Harmonia. My partner and I have been living aboard Harmonia for the past year, exploring London’s canals, the Thames and then the Kennet and Avon. We have both now got jobs far south where the waterways don’t reach so we are having to move onto dryland unfortunately. Harmonia is structurally sound, maintained and with a modernised interior. Harmonia is spacious and the perfect size with an optimum living space; the layout is open (instead of having built in furniture) leaving a blank canvas for you to use the space in a way that suits you best. It’s also not too big so that, with practice, you can literally spin this boat in most places without travelling to a turning point, which will save you loads of time, and just small enough to fit in every single lock nationwide so you can explore EVERYWHERE (think its 57ft is the maximum for this).
Harmonia benefits from blacking and complete survey 1 year ago (available on request) and full engine service (all executed in Stanstead Abbotts Marina, 1/6/2020). Annodes were last fitted when the boat was out of the water in 2014, and has not needed them replaced since as suggested by the surveyor. A full interior refurbishment was completed in 2015 and it was repainted in 2019. The exterior of the cabin and roof were fully painted with undercoats and 4 top coats in 2015. The exterior is practical and presentable for continuous cruising or permanent mooring and the interior is spacious, light and airy, fitted with modern domestic appliances that do not have the typical ‘ex-hire’ boat feel. The boat is ready as an immediate home on the water with the following features.
The bow of the boat starts with a gas locker which was rebuilt by Sebastian from LSC Boat Maintenance and has enough room for two gas bottles so you’re never caught without hot water or a working stove and oven. It has a spacious outside sitting area with internal bow hatch storage and removable cratch cover custom made by Nicki in Bow, East London. In winter this makes for a great place to keep muddy shoes and jackets, keep wood dry and adds extra security. The cratch area leads into the kitchen which features a Villeroy and Bosch ceramic sink and draining board all resealed in the last month, an Indesit full sized gas oven and grill, under counter 12 volt fridge with freezer compartment, solid beech worktops which have recently been sanded and re-oiled with 4 coats of danish oil so looking extra fresh, and cupboards and a Morco on demand gas water heater, 240v plugs, USB charging sockets & Oak floor throughout living and kitchen area which has also recently been sanded and re-stained, so looking gorgeous and rich in colour. Lots of additional shelving added to the kitchen to create extra space too.
In the living area is a beautiful made.com sofa which has been labelled by many boaters as ‘the most comfy couch I’ve ever sat on on a boat’, is available with the boat.
A Morso Squirrel stove with back boiler and custom made flu keeps you properly warm in winters and has been serviced yearly since 2016 by Ship Shape Boat Services (last service was November 2019). It has a gravity fed back boiler which keeps things nice and toasty in the bathroom & bedroom as well. An Eco fan also comes with the boat and makes the world of difference distributing the heat from the stove.
Flue cleaned march 2021.
The bathroom has a fully tiled floor & a full sized domestic shower cubicle 800mmx900mm (one of the best shower pressures we’ve experienced in London). A modern full size sink mirror + storage cupboard. A compost toilet built by Colin Ives saves you from cassette and pump out nightmares you’ve read about on Facebook’s ‘London Boaters’.
The bedroom has been recently re-painted re-designed, with lots of additional modern style shelving put in, with 3 windows one of which is a porthole & the other two are hatch windows; which open in three parts; allowing a beautiful breeze on hot summer nights. The bed lifted up so to access large storage space available underneath. The bedroom also includes a wardrobe and a built-in set of three deep drawers and nook for books/various other bits and bobs. 2x USB sockets at the head of the bed. Copper pipes off the back boiler running along the wall to an old school radiator in the bedroom and one in the engine room, which add a lovely look to the aesthetics of the room and seriously appreciated warmth on wintery nights.
Recently sanded and re-stained the bedroom floor too, so the floorboards are looking beautiful.
We have installed a fold away desk in the bedroom, which we found allows for peaceful home-working away from shared the living space.
Installed in March this year 3x brand new lockable roof boxes that house the solar panels as their roofs, creating a tonne of extra storage. Brand new decking (6 ft x 16 ft) & ladder creating a whole new room in summer for al fresco drinking, dining or sunbathing!
Currently having the front cratch wall remade, with perspex windows which will be done imminently, photos to follow soon!
