We have been living onboard since March 2018 and currently operate as a take away cafe called Tow Path Toasties in East London. Last Blacking at Uxbridge Boat Yard in July 2020.Deck

Our ballast’s are large paving slabs which have been PVA sealed and relayed with fresh wooden blocks.
Welding work and Blacking
The bow was fully replated at Uxbridge boat yard along with a new uxter plate welded in early 2019, when the boat was lifted out of the water we found that the whole bottom of the boat had been re-plated, a huge job (to our surprise it looked brand new and the previous owners didn’t mention this). We also had a bit of spot welding done around the Keel cooling system in the engine compartment, which has massively benefitted the engine itself.
Last Blacked in Uxbridge boat yard July 2020
Survey & Boat Safety Certificate
Last survey was in 2017 prior to our modifications and updates on Marlow. This can be provided on request.
If you’re keen to have the boat surveyed you should arrange a survey in a 5 mile radius but you will have to pay for the survey – if you are happy with the results, we are will knock the costs of the sale price (up to £500).
BSS until mid 2021 – new one booked in and paid for with Peter Wakeham, Uxbridge, 07774166497
Heating comes from the wood burner. It provides a lot of heat with the right balance of fuel. It’s really cosy and romantic in the winter and makes for the perfect night in.
The windows are great and create lots of light within the boat, we have had no problems with them living in central London. Most people believe that winter is the worst time on the boat, however aboard Marlow you won’t have an issue with keeping yourself/yourselves warm.
Here are a few other costs you would need to think about when living aboard a narrow boat:
Continuous Cruising License – £90.
Gas – 13kg of calor gas will last 3 months depending on consumption and cost around £35.
Coal – In the coldest part of winter you’ll probably need 1 XL bags a week, around £16.
Engine service – £150 or learn how to do it yourself, I can recommend a great teacher. Ours was last done Dec 2019 and needs doing every 18 months maximum.
The canals in London are a wonderful place to call home, living amongst nature in this huge city can be very relaxing. One of the best elements of this life is being able to move from one area to another at the drop of a hat, and never have the same old commute on your hands. Though it requires a certain amount of up keep, its well worth it to have this sort of daily freedom
