DESCRIPTIONMilky Moon is a 60ft by 10ft liveaboard designed and built for continuous cruising on London’s canals and rivers. She has a spacious master bedroom, a bathroom with bath and shower, a second bedroom that serves as a study and a spacious, open-plan kitchen and living room. She’s made of steel with a 52 hp diesel engine and spacious, cruiser style stern, has solid oak flooring throughout and her interior is built of tongue-and-groove paneling on the walls and ceiling. She is well-insulated and well-ventilated to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer and as has more than enough headroom for anyone under 6’5″. She has Dr. Who levels of well-hidden storage space that would shame most flats in in East London, she can comfortably sleep six people and she’s proven herself capable more than once of seating 14 for Sunday Dinner.Milky Moon was designed for Continuous Cruising and built to be as self-sufficient as possible in terms of storage, supplies and energy consumption. She has an enormous 1,000L tank built into the bow to hold fresh water, a built-in 350L diesel tank under the stern and a 500L waste tank in the engine bay that maximizes the available space to minimize the amount of time you’ll spend filling up with the water and emptying the toilet. She’s driven by a Canaline 52 diesel engine that was fitted at the end of 2011. As well as propulsion the engine provides electricity to a bank of leisure batteries via twin alternators and more hot water than you’ll ever need via a calorifier in the engine bay. In addition to the engine, electricity is generated by two powerful solar panels on the roof and an intelligent charging system. To be as energy-efficient as possible the boat was designed so that virtually everything runs off 12V electricity but she also has a 3KW inverter to supply 240V when needed.ENGINEThe boat is powered by a Canaline, 52hp, 4 cylinder, marine diesel engine coupled to a PRM 150 hydraulic gearbox with 2:1 reduction, turning the propeller. The exhaust is lagged, silenced and vents out from under the side deck. The engine powers twin 12v alternators to charge the starter battery, four leisure batteries and heats up the hot water system.ACCOMMODATIONThe main hatch from the back deck into the boat opens into a spacious, open-plan living room leading to a fully-fitted kitchen with a full-size 12V fridge freezer, washing machine, built-under fan oven with separate grill and a 4 burner cast iron and glass gas hob. She’s kept toasty by a massive 8kW stove that lets you burn coal or logs and a back-boiler to provide hot water and power a central heating system with six radiators throughout the boat, a heated towel rail and under-floor heating in the bathroom. She also has a Webasto diesel central heating with a thermostat and a timer that allows you to set the heating to come on and warm up the boat for when you get home. The corridor leading from the kitchen has sliding doors revealing a full-length wardrobe for clothes and coats and five drawers for tidying tools and storing bits and bobs. The first room off this corridor is the guest bedroom / baby room / study which has a single bed that can extend into a double, a beautiful work desk sliced straight from a tree trunk and options for charging phones and laptops via a built-in bank of 12 or 240V sockets.Next on the right is the bathroom with full size bath, shower, sink and a Jabsco pump-action toilet that empties into a holding tank situated in the engine bay.The master bedroom has a king size double bed built high to maximize storage space, 12 built-in drawers under the bed and a cavernous cupboard for forgetting about bulky occasional items and two huge floor-to-ceiling wardrobes on either side of the door that opens onto the bow deck.VITAL STATISTICSBuilt by Liverpool Boats in 2005Canaline 52 engine fitted in 2011Interior refitted / redecorated in spring 2017Rewired for 12V in 2016Gas system replaced in 2017350L diesel tank1000L fresh water tank500L waste tankTwin alternators (to charge starter battery and leisure batteries from the engine)Two 235W solar panels and 40A MPPT controllerFour T-105 Trojan deep cycle leisure batteriesThere are two dozen 12V sockets spread throughout the boat with built-in USB chargers for phones, lamps and laptops240V electricity is provided by Victron Phoenix 3000VA Sine Wave inverterMassive 8KW Aarrow Stratford multi-fuel stove with back-boiler, six radiators, a heated towel rail and underfloor heating in the bathroomWebasto diesel central heatingFull-size (97L + 33L), super-efficient 12V Shoreline Fridge FreezerBrand new, built-in Whirlpool Washing MachineNewly fitted, built-under LPG-fueled Belling oven/grill and SIA four burner cast iron and glass hobSTORAGEMaster BedroomTwo fitted double wardrobes with hanging space and shelving12 under bed drawersFurther massive under-bed long-term storageSecond Bedroom / StudyFive large under-bed drawersFurther under-bed storage spaceHallQuadruple fitted tall wardrobe: three sections with coat hanging space and one section with top to bottom drawers, currently used as tool storageBathroomTwo double cupboardsGalleyKitchen cupboardsFloor-to-ceiling shelves for books and with the bottom two built to accommodate 12″ recordsA desk with removable top that has a built-in cabinet to fit DJ decks and a mixer, shelving for speakers and space to hide away all the wiresMassive ceiling-to-bilge cupboard with adjustable shelvingOutside Storage One large gas locker at the bow (used for gas bottles)Two gas lockers at stern (used for storage)Two custom-built boxes on the roof that hold the solar panels and provide additional storage for camping chairs and folding tables etc.
