BOAT SHARE – PERCY VEERE
– 26FT MICROPLUS
GRP RIVER CANAL CRUISER NARROWBOAT
Your £50 buys access to our 10-page comprehensive syndicate agreement and items such as a survey report and maintenance programme, plus a membership joining fee. We want you to read this to know the aims and structure of the group. Then……….
You will be invited to apply for a standard share in Percy
Veere of three weeks (Low, Mid, & High seasons) at £690 capital (£50 joining fee will have been paid). The capital cost will return to you in full if and when you sell your share in the future. A 2 week share of Low and Mid seasons is also possible.
NB You may find this advert elsewhere in the Parts section; it is for the same share even if the cost is not.
One share has become available. A current member has less time and can no longer use the boat, relinquishing the three weeks on offer. If you become a member soon enough you will be able to book weeks as part of your share purchase if you wish, but your three weeks apply from March to October each year. We can show you the boat asap, but do not expect members to use it until the Spring. There is the possibility of a trial on either Sunday 3rd or 17th of March. The engine (after its winter service) and new batteries are being returned to Percy then.
It will be on a first come first served basis, with the payment of the £50 membership fee determining the order of potential purchasers. The new member’s calendar weeks will be requested as soon as you wish. Also, members are sometimes unable to use their weeks (or some days during the week), so you may be able to use the boat more than your allotted 3 weeks each year.
There are currently 10 member/owners of the boat.
Each standard share gives the owner 3 weeks use per year in 3
seasons (11 weeks each); Low, Mid and High (March to October), and it can be sold at any time
of the shareholder’s choosing in the future.
You may hold up to 4 shares max in total. Maintenance, insurance, licence fee and a winter
mooring charge are covered by a day usage charge for members. At the moment this is £10 Low, £13 mid and £16 High season for 2024. We each pay this as a lump sum around January/February for the following season as the licence, insurance, winter mooring and engine service are all due then. This means that a capital cost of £690, plus the one-off membership £50, plus three weeks at 70+91+112 total to £1013 for the first year; no other costs except of course for fuel used during your weeks on the boat. Therefore incredibly cheap boating considering that the £690 returns to you on selling your share. You may sell the share yourself or ask the group to do it for you as the member has requested in this case.
A copy of the Percy Veere Syndicate agreement (2024 as amended at our AGMs or special meetings) will be sent by email (or post if preferred) as soon as you have registered your serious interest with the £50 fee. It cannot be sent by eBay message service, so I’ll need an email address please. The eBay system will allow you to send this as soon as you have paid. Any payment made via eBay will be deemed to be for this agreement and the system will then allow you to send me your email address. If the share is sold before your request is processed the £50 will be returned to you and the eBay transaction cancelled. No other commitment is necessary until you wish to visit the boat with a view to becoming a member. If you subsequently withdraw after your visit and do not wish to take up the share then your fee will be returned to you less any expenses specific to this eBay advert and showing you the boat. We hope to show Percy to any prospective member when an existing member is on Percy anyway to save you any travel cost and the only cost is then the eBay fee. However, if you are certain you want to join after reading the syndicate agreement, and cannot make it, you are of course welcome to buy a share without visiting the boat at this stage. For the start of next season we are aiming to use the boat on the Trent and Mersey canal and thence to motor further south and west to the Stourport/Worcester/Stratford areas during 2024.
Percy Veere has had several thousands spent on him in the last few years, including a new Honda BF10 in 2018 which runs sweetly at about 1 litre per hour’s boating (3-4 mph). The £4,400 spent professionally in 2022 was as a result of a marine survey and the surveyor’s recommendations. You will be entitled to view his report and its conclusions which includes his endorsement of the work done. The boat is insured with GJW Ltd whose only requirement
for covering syndicate members is 50 hours boating experience or the completion
of a boat handling course. If you have
no experience and are not prepared to take a course PLEASE DO NOT offer for a share. A new 4-year BSS certificate was obtained in April 2021 so the next one is due next year around Easter.
Percy has a winter mooring for 2023/4 near Nantwich on the Shropshire Union Canal. To view him before next season will entail travelling to this location.

**********PLEASE DO NOT WASTE OUR TIME (OR YOURS) IF YOU HAVE NO INTENTION OF JOINING THE
SYNDICATE************
This is a maintained boat; we keep a log which each member is asked to fill in during use so that engine hours can be monitored. We aim for a service between each 100 and 150 hours of use.
There are no liabilities. 2024 (Oct) canal licence fee, insurance (Feb) and RCR (March) cover have all been paid. We are financially strong and there is a healthy bank balance.
Percy has been on the Southern Oxford, Kennet and Avon, Thames and Southern Grand Union, the Coventry, Ashby, and Northampton Arm of the GU canals, and the river Nene in recent years. He may well be brought southwards again after 2024 as some members are relatively new. Our season runs from mid March to the end of October (33 weeks), but the boat can be used in the winter even if the main upholstery is stored away in a member’s home.
This membership was created at the end of 2017 to provide several people
with affordable holiday weeks afloat.
Percy is a sound boat, but at 30 years old he is cheap so
should cost very little per week to use, plus fuel of course. The capital should be a sound investment with little or no depreciation
as the usage charges will keep the boat shipshape over the years to come. Fixed assets are currently valued at £7590, being 11 x 3 week shares at £690 each. (£5990 surveyor’s value + £1600 syndicate goodwill)
WE WANT TO SHOW PERCY TO PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS BEFORE THE NEW SEASON, SO PLEASE REGISTER YOUR INTEREST AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. IF YOU ARE ABLE TO VIEW WHEN ONE OF US IS ON THE BOAT ANYWAY THEN NO EXTRA COST NEED BE INVOLVED. IF NOT AND WE NEED TO MAKE A SPECIAL JOURNEY THEN WE WILL NEED TO CHARGE YOU FOR OUR EXPENSES OUT OF YOUR £50. WE LOOK FORWARD TO COMPLETING OUR COMPLEMENT OF MEMBERS SOON. COME AND JOIN US! I WILL SEND YOU THE SYNDICATE AGREEMENT AS SOON AS YOU PAY THE £50 MEMBERSHIP AND SEND YOUR EMAIL OR POSTAL ADDRESS. PLEASE ASK IF YOU HAVE ANY QUERIES.
