38ft Canal Boat – Narrowboat
Standard beam 6ft6 – Just been blacked – BSS till July 2022
For sale, my boat which I have owned for around 9 years and used as a live aboard. I originally purchased the boat from Wilton Marina in Northamptonshire and cruised it down to London, where it is currently moored. Since owning it I haven’t had any major issues with it and its been a great boat for one person. It is however still a bit of a project and will be sold as seen.
The hull specification is a 6mm baseplate with 4/5mm sides, the cabin is technically a wooden top but is overskined with galvanised steel sheets on the sides and aluminium sheet on the roof. The hull has been regularly blacked.

Bad Points – why this is a project! – but perhaps a good opportunity for someone who’s a bit handy.
One window has a crack, been like this for years just not got around to sorting it, seals on some of the windows are a bit old and will weep a bit in heavy rain.
The boat needs painting properly
Gas water heater works but can be tricky to light the pilot light
Front and rear cover have seen better days but are repairable
Some deck boards need attention
odd and ends to finish off in the interior
Info (if your new to boating)
Continuous cruiser license for this boat costs £800 per year – this allows the boat to be kept on the inland canal and river network, the requirement being that you would need to cruise and moore up in a different place, typically every 14 days. However if you rent or own a mooring this would not be necessary.
If your living aboard and like having long hot showers everyday you will find you will probably be spending a lot of time going to fill up the water tank. The solar panels are great for keeping the batteries topped up, giving enough energy to run lighting, keep the fridge going in the summer, charging phones, laptop etc. Using anything power hungry (like hairdryers, toasters, power tools etc) you would need to run the engine, the alternator will charge the batteries and provide power.
There are facilities along the canal for disposing of toilet waste, rubbish, recycling and filling up with water. ‘Coal’ boats can often be seen cruising up and down the canal which will sell you fuel, coal, gas, wood and other things. Just flag one down and buy what you need or some will allow you to call ahead, pay in advance and will leave what you need if your not around.
