Cotswold is a one of a kind, trad stern narrowboat. Powered by a Sabb 2H
engine which sits in an engine room towards the stern of the boat. These
engines were traditionally used for Norwegian life boats and are referred to in
the boating community as ‘bullet proof’. Regular oil and filter changes have
been carried out the fuel filter was replaced a few months ago, with a spare on
board.
Since owning Cotswold, lovingly referred to as ‘the funky water bus’, we
refitted the bathroom and relocated the bed to the rear of the boat. This opened
up valuable space for a bespoke shelving unit which doubled up as a mini DJ
booth and space to chill /practice yoga.
In the process of refitting, upgraded insulation was fitted, as well as
fresh flooring and tongue and groove walls to separate the engine room
from the rest of the boat.
At the stern is the boatman’s cabin. This area has a certain charm and
now serves as the main berth. A small double bed has been fitted so as not to
diminish the traditional nature of the cabin. However, it is easily removable
should the new owners want to restore the area to its original status. The
cabin has plenty of under bed storage and cupboard space.
Extra storage was also added in the form of a decking style roof box.
This provides a great space to comfortably sit and enjoy the long summer
nights, but valuably stores coal and wood to power the Morso squirrel stove in
the winter months.
A Kabola old English diesel stove lies on board, but is yet to be
installed. This will come with the boat should the new owners prefer the hassle-free
nature of a diesel stove.
Having continuously cruised the London network for the past 2.5years, we
have a strong bond with Cotswold and are pleased to have seen it come to life
with our own personal touches. It’s been a great way to live in & explore
London, she will keep a special place in our hearts and has provided a great
adventure for us. We hope this can be passed on to you.
