Most narrowboat you cannot stand up in if you are 6ft tallSURVEYED in 2015 found to be very good (based plate 7.2 – 8.4mm. sides 4,9 – 5.9mm), we have the paperwork to show this. The hull was over plated around 17 years ago at the same time as the steel cabin was created, just before my partner bought it and has been maintained well since then, resulting in very little deterioration.
The cabin has been freshly sanded and painted by myself in the last few months and is an ongoing projectBlacked in 2015 but also black in situ above and along waterline this year. BOAT SAFETY CERTIFICATE valid until August 2019. Boatman’s cabin with some original artwork to back doors and internal cupboard. Sleeps 6 in total – double in boatman’s cabin, double main bedroom mid cabin and fitted double sofa bed in living area. Oak cupboards and sycamore worktops throughout with maple floor. Fully fitted out kitchen – full size cooker and large Belfast sink, lots of cupboard storage space.
Bathroom – with FULL LENGTH BATH and under bath storage. Shower. Elsan toilet. Very large 10 ft internal/external front cratch area with oak u-shaped seating area, can seat up to 8 people. Everything (solar panels, batteries, lighting, hot water boiler) is working perfectly for living aboard.
There are no leaks on this boat, the windows are water tight and she has been so well insulated that there is very little condensation. Situated on the Kennet & Avon Canal in Wiltshire at present but can be moved easily.
Aston was built by Harland & Wolff in 1937 for the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company who ordered 24 working pairs to extend their fleet. Only 24 Large Woolwich Butty’s were ever made and not all of them live on. The Large Woolwich Butty had a deeper (4′ 9.5”) hold in order to hold more cargo (hence the larger than usual headroom for a narrowboat). I believe she was originally paired with Ascot but can see photo evidence of her paired with Greenock. You can read more about the history on the link below.

After living on her for 16 years we are moving on with another historic boat project. We will be so sad to see her go. She is a very comfortable boat to live on where everything works as it should and she is bone dry with great insulation. She was completely fitted out to a very high standard by my partner who is a joiner.
