Welcome to the sale of our beautiful liveaboard Narrowboat ‘Dreems’ She was built by the reputable boat builders Hancock and Lane in 1978. Originally designed as a river cruiser she is a well proportioned small boat fully capable of river conditions due to the reliable 1.5 Bmc engine. She spins around the canals with effortless ease and can turn anywhere due to her length. We purchased this back in 2012 and soon after began a full refit of her as she was aesthetically a bit dated! After a year spent cruising around mainly Shopshire,London and oxford we settled at our mooring north of Banbury where she has been based ever since. I am a carpenter/ joiner and together with my partner we spent some years fitting her out to what she is now, a beautiful and calming space ideal for 1 person or a couple. In fact our second daughter spent her first 6 months on it before we moved onto land in 2022. Having relocated recently to an area without canals we have decided to give her up for the next person to finish off as I simply don’t have the time anymore to take her all the way to completed. In terms of the progress of the boat I’d say that infrastructure /functionality she is 90% finished , anyone with basic skills and a few tools could do the rest of the work in 2/3 weeks. This is a realistic timeframe that I would give myself to finish her off. I have plenty of materials and parts to include in sale, tiles, plumbing bits, hardwoods, fixings, paint, etc. she has a relatively new chemical toilet ( porta potti excellence) included also. She was last blacked and had a full hull survey in summer 2021 at our local boat yard, showing a healthy hull with no issues. Available to see for reference upon request. Some key elements of the boat still to do are:Tile shower enclosure, install mixer(Brand new shower tray and mixer etc already there)Finish side hatches ( needs hinges and locking bolt) Finish plumbing 90% complete . I have taken it to all the main areas and will need filling testing and water tank ( recently blacked) need filling and its lid secured down. Cedar cladding above gunwales will need framing around windows, I have plenty of wood/ materials for this that I can supply with boat if you wanted to finish this in cedar to match. Naturally there are lots of little trimming snags that will need to be done along the way , covering ceiling joins for example,. Framing out the top roof hatch. The boats hot water heating is currently limited to off the engine and as yet does not have an instant hot water type heater( paloma etc) these are available and there a few places it could be fitted. She originally did have one but we stripped it out at the start of the build. I have allowed a space in the kitchen to fit a Dometic12v fridge under the counter. It is available from midland chandlers and will fit perfectly in the space. I’m terms of the running of the boat the engine is in great health and has a new alternator, a new starter motor, all gauges linked to the engine are working temp, oil pressure, battery voltmeter etc. the gas locker in the bow has space for 3 bottles ( supplied) and she has a brand new over/ hob. The solar panel on the roof sorts out power for spring summer, depending on usage obviously but alternatively the alternator can be used for charging battery bank. She had 4 healthy domestic batteries and 1 starter battery. Boat has a 1600w Victron inverter/charger, this allows for 240v use or you can use it to charge the boat if in a marina or through an outside generator for example. Boat has 12v sockets and 240 sockets throughout. She has all the cruising gear needed, morning pins, lock keys, fenders etc..Internally I have fitted her out in a mix of woods. The floor is solid oak. Walls are painted below gunwales and cedar above. Kitchen is handmade by myself and is birch ply carcass/ fronts and framed in solid oak, with an iroko worktop, Belfast sink. Externally she was stripped back to metal and had a professional repaint by my partner in 2015, in general is fine but does have a few spots that need priming and repainting to keep up overall look. There’s a great roof hatch that slides back leaving 1.5 meters of sky, nice in the summer for star gazing in bed! The boat had a boat safety still, I think it runs out this summer. For anyone who would want to have her surveyed there is a friendly boat yard local to the mooring about 2 hours cruise away. Also for anyone who would like to take on the mooring long term I can introduce you to our landlord , this might help with finishing the fit out as it has space for parking, water point and a friendly community around.
