Sadly neglected narrowboat due to cottage restoration project, unable to to do both, so ‘Mallard’ has to go. I have been intending to continue upgrading the craft for several years but now I have too many other commitments. The boat has various ‘issues’ none of which are beyond anyone with some practical skills and importantly, who has the time to spend in making this craft the excellent NB it can be. IMPORTANT – I am pricing this at a figure which is very reasonable, taking into consideration the limited amount of work that could make all the difference. Not only that but at this stage I am prepared to take an offer, what you might call a ‘discount’. BUT – as I intend to carry out some work to the boat and the issues become less, the discount becomes less too. So if you want a sound narrowboat and are prepared to do the work mentioned below, make an offer, the sooner you do, the less I have to do, the more I’ll be prepared to ‘discount’, the better the bargain you’ll get.Basic facts – Built 79 (possibly later) by Hancock & Lane. 40ft cruiser stern. Original name ‘Mallard’, currently ‘Barfly’ but will be changed. 40ft all steel hull and top surveyed five years ago, blacked, four anodes replaced, two additional fitted amidships. BMC 1.5 diesel overhauled five years ago, water-cooled (onboard tank). Two good batteries with a solar charging panel. Paloma water heater. LPG four ring plus oven cooker (almost new). Aarow multi fuel stove. Electric pumped water serving sink and shower. Cassette toilet. Shower pump. Two single bunks at the rear, cross double at the front adjacent to doors to cratch. Shore power fitted with consumer meter. Cratch cover.Issues – Waterpump needs fitting (new parts bought). Rear Door needs tidying (this was to be the subject of a re-design of the entrance with steps inside rather than in the stern). Electrics need tidying (for same reason). Shower/wc room needs attention, including the Paloma. Saloon top needs rubbing down and re-painting. Sides need ‘decorating’. Name written on the bow. Cratch interior needs painting. A stern decking panel has some rot. The LPG regulator needs replacing. The ‘cockpit’ area needs painting and the gutters need some TLC. Having written this out it doesn’t seem too much – so there you are .The craft is at Bradford on Avon Marina and I have spoken to the very friendly guy who runs it and provided you can sort out ‘key money’, the mooring is yours. It’s a good marina with a great atmosphere, The Boathouse Pub, and on the K&A only a morning’s cruise from Bath.
