Well maintained and refurbished Springer narrow boat. She is in great condition and ready to use as she stands, with plenty of scope for a new owner to personalise and enjoy her.
The hull is 52 feet
by 6 feet 10 inches and is a āVā bottomed type with a cruiser
stern. She was built by Springer in 1986. The steelwork is a substantial 6/6/4mm thickness.
The boat came out of
the water last summer for blacking and new anodes. At the same time I
had the sub surface steel tested by ultrasound and there was no appreciable reduction in thickness. In fact the readings were all
slightly above the nominal thickness of 6mm. A small area at the bow
has been professionally re-plated at some point and is in excellent condition. I will make the hull survey report available to prospective buyers.
The interior of the
boat is fitted out with wooden cladding, which I have
re-painted in bright modern colours throughout.
The accommodation
comprises a bedroom with double bed at the front of the boat. In the
bedroom is a wardrobe with hanging space and shelving. Under the bed
are large fitted drawers, which give ample storage. There is a small
12v DTV in the bedroom connected to an external aerial with a signal
booster. There is more storage space and a small vestibule leading
out onto the front deck. The bedroom floor is carpeted.
The bathroom has a
hip bath/shower, vanity unit and an electric flushing cassette
toilet. There is storage space under the vanity unit.
The saloon is open
plan, large and airy. A new log burner is fitted in the middle, which keeps the whole boat very warm, even in the coldest weather. There
are two comfortable leather reclining swivel chairs with matching
footstools included and plenty of space for a sofa if preferred .
The saloon leads
into the galley with no intervening bulkheads. The galley comprises
modern kitchen units, a gas hob and oven, a 12v/250v/LPG fridge and a gas water
heater. There is ample storage in various cupboards.
The saloon and
galley feature plenty of windows, making this space very light and
airy. All of the windows are fitted with venetian blinds.
The floor covering
throughout the bathroom, saloon and galley is a wood laminate flooring.
Internal equipment
and fittings include a stainless steel water tank under the fore
deck, a new pure sine wave 1000w inverter supplying 230v AC power points
throughout the boat. There is an external solar panel with an
internal charge controller to maintain and charge the batteries. Lighting
is by halogen lights throughout. There is provision for shore power and a shore line is included.
The engine is a BMC
1.5 diesel, marinised by Mermaid. The engine has been completely
stripped and rebuilt with many new parts and is in excellent working
order. In particular, it has had new fuel injection pump, new
injectors, a new water pump and a new fuel lift pump. The deck boards
have just been replaced with new boards finished in aluminium chequer
plate. The engine control panel has been replaced with a new one and
the electrical system has been upgraded. There are three 110AH
batteries (two domestic and one start) with a changeover isolation
switch that allows all three to be connected and/or charged together. The fuel tank has just been removed, de-rusted and painted with epoxy paint.
Water heating is by
instantaneous gas water heater, which provides hot
water for the sinks and shower. The gas locker on the rear deck can hold
two 7.5kg gas bottles or one 15kg bottle. (one 7.5kg bottle is included).
The exterior of the
boat has been recently repainted in a green and cream colour scheme with red
detailing. The front well deck has a black vinyl cratch/tonneau
cover that is worn, but perfectly serviceable.
The spacious interior and comfortable handling make this an ideal starter boat and it would suit either permanent or temporary living for one or two people, or just make a great holiday boat. With the Springer V hull she handles very
well. The BMC 1.5 engine is ideally matched and easily pushes her
along fast enough to cope well with river or inland tidal waters. At 52 feet she is unusual for a Springer as they didn’t make many of this length.
She comes complete
with a set of ropes, mooring pins, boat pole, gang plank and lock
windlasses.
There is a BSS certificate which is current until end of 2018. The boat is currently compliant with all aspects of the BSS.
The boat is currently in Market Drayton, Shropshire where she can be viewed by arrangement. I can arrange delivery of the boat by water to anywhere on the network (subject to stoppages and access) – cost to be agreed at point of sale.
