Gadwall and the Xyris yachts.
Gadwall is one of six ships of the same design built by Camper & Nicholson in 1939 the design of which is attributed to Charles E Nicholson the legendary designer. The Nicholson Family owned and used one of Gadwall’s sister ships for a number of years and Gadwall was owned and sailed in the early 1950’s by Mr WL Williamson the Woolworth millionaire and passionate sailor. Williamson was a friend of Nicholson who also designed and built the iconic J Class Velsheda for him in the 1930’s.
Xyris yachts are extremely fast and perfectly balanced cruiser racer yachts with excellent sea keeping abilities even in foul conditions. They have won the Round, the island race in 1939 and notably competing effectively in Cowes Classics in 2020. Xyris yachts have also cruised successfully in the Baltic, France and Spain.
