yes shes back in the water and is looking beautiful, she has to go soon due to a change of life style. I may
even px or swap, but I have my eye on a more family oriented boat so
make me an offer – you won’t know till you ask!
“JORO”
is a 1949 30 foot, wooden mahogany on oak frames, twin screw,
Gentlemen’s Yacht. Built in Fareham, Hampshire by Percy M See Ltd,
she has a beam of 10 feet. I have the original drawings, and blue
book registration, and also manuals for the engines, gear boxes,
plotter etc etc.
most of the original fittings remain eg bronze bollards, portholes etc. She has recently had extensive work carried out, including beautiful new larch decks splined with iroko, and custom made edging to seal the deck around the foredeck hatch and skylight, aft cabin and wheelhouse. She has had repairs to the keel, several planks have been replaced, she has been professionally re caulked and anti fouled and has had two new 110 amp leisure battery’s fitted, plus two new sea cocks to feed the engine cooling system, the other sea cocks have all been serviced ,new anodes where fitted . Due to ill health, I
am not in a position to be able to keep this amazing boat but I will
be very sorry to see her go as I have lived aboard her for over 13
years now.
I
have recently purchased and fitted two good condition, refurbished
BMC 1500 diesel engines that both run well on the bench. These are
reliable engines, cheap to run and easy to get parts for. I have not
yet sold the old engines so these could go with the boat as spares. I
am not sure of the condition of these as they have not been run for 4
years. Both turn over and were very reliable in the years we went to
sea. Before I bought the new engines, we ran the starboard engine up
and it was reading 60 psi oil pressure. I have had the head off the
port engine and have ground the valves in so it may be ok but I have
not tested it. There is also a spare gear box but I’m not sure which
side it is for.
JORO
has an aft cabin with shower & full size double bed, storage and
tv. The wheelhouse is midships with a Furuno plotter & radar etc,
also auto helm, compass & 12v fridge with a small freezer
compartment. The galley has a two ring cooker, grill and oven, hot &
cold pressurised water currently disconnected while ashore, stainless
steel sink with drainer, and also a fold out ironing board. The
saloon is extremely cozy and a very nice place to sit and chill out
with its varnished wood work and original fittings. There is a
beautiful fold up table & bench seating that converts to a double
bed, a tv and also an opening sky light. The head is in the bow with
an electric toilet currently disconnected due to being ashore. It has
a small sink with pressurised hot and cold water (currently
disconnected), two port holes and a hatch for ventilation. There is a
large electric winch on the bow & anchor with chain. She also has
a mast (not fitted) and an assortment of sails. This is just a brief
description, there is much more to this beautiful classic boat &
viewing is essential.
All
the major work has now been done to a cost of over 20k (I have
stopped counting now!). The work to the hull to put her back in the
water has been carried out by a time served, professional shipwright.
This is an on going project & right now I am varnishing all of
the exterior wood and repainting the top sides, and refitting the
bollards and deck fittings. She currently lying in the boatyard at
Noss Marina Dartmouth, while I finish her off. Aside from these jobs
she is pretty much ready to go in the water and move under her own
steam.( the hull has now been painted down to the water line all varnish work has been done , the hull is now caulked up and ready to be primed and anti fouled shes not far off survey time and this will affect the price so hurry and make an offer )
She’s
being re advertised due to development work at Noss Marina meaning
she could not be transported from the yard by road, but as said
above, she will very soon be ready for re-launching. Joro is a
bargain and priced to sell. She is a very solid old boat and there
are not many 40s style boats around any more. I want a good home for
her so viewing is essential. Be warned though you will fall in love
with her!! Feel free to contact me for more detailed information or a
good old look around. Thanks for looking, David –
