Their long keels
give them directional stability, and the shallow draft made possible by the
lifting centre board, gives them access to shallow waters not possible with deeper keels,
while at the same time, with plate down, giving them good windward ability. Ariel has been great fun and is generally in good condition for her age and seaworthy. She’s been lifted out every winter and antifouled each spring. There are a couple of small areas where the headliner is starting to come away that may need addressing eventually. I bought her in 2013, and have had great fun sailing her but I have taken the plunge and bought a bigger boat now my son has grown taller than me so we can continue to sail together.
