For sale is a lovely
example of a 1970’s westerly Pageant.
History of the pageant
class;
The Pageant was
designed for westerly by Laurent Giles in 1969, as a replacement to
the earlier Nomad.
Production of these
vessels ran from 1970-1979.
As with all of Westerly
marine yachts the pageant was built very strongly to Lloyds
specifications, this meant that all the building processes were
rigorously monitored and all materials used had to be approved by
Lloyds in order for each vessel to obtain a Hull certificate.
Quick specs:

Seiun
specifics:
Seiun is a
nice example of the yacht and has been well kept by previous owners,
However she is showing some of her age in places but mainly these are
things like cushion covers that if the new owners wanted to replace
would give them a chance to make this boat their own.
She comes
with an extensive cruising inventory and offers lots of space for her
size, making her perfectly suited for couples or small families
wanting to get on the water for less. Vessels with similar internal
volume would usually be bigger,Seiuns compact size and high internal
volume gives you the most space for your money and allows you to
benefit from cheaper mooring fees, harbour dues and cheaper
maintenance costs.
Sails
and rigging:
Seiun
is well kitted out for sailing, her outboard angled keels, both fore
and aft, top to bottom, allow her to sail remarkably well. Westerlys
tend to have a reputation for being sluggish but I think this is a
unwarranted reputation especially in the case of Seiun.
Below
is a list of sails and sailing equipment with the boat;
Main
sail
Genoa
cruising
chute
spinnaker
pole
Main
sail cover
The
running and standing rigging, including the Genoa furling unit was
replaced in 2006 by bucklers hard yard services.
All
the sails are obviously in used condition but still have life left in
them, the previous owner didn’t use the boat that much and when he
did he was normally motoring.
This
brings me onto the next good point about Seiun-
Engine
and propulsion:
Seiun is
propelled by a three bladed propeller ( new in 2011) attached to a
stainless steel shaft fitted with a rope cutter, this goes through a
conventional stuffing box stern gland and connected to a YANMAR 2GM20
fitted in approximately 1998, this had a full upper half rebuild in
2007.
the engine
has also just had its engine and gearbox oil changed, incl. A new oil
filter and new belt.
The
pulleys where also removed, cleaned and resprayed. The water pump and
starter motor have also been serviced.
Electrics:
12v:-
Seiun is
fitted with two 75AH leisure batteries and a starter battery.
She has a
Garmin fish finder and GPS, an old but working log and a compass with
light.
She has
prt, stbd and stern deck level lights, a masthead tri-colour.
Lights in
all cabins.
Galvanic
isolator and split charging diode for the engine alternator, all
batteries are charged by the engine.
Tiller
pilot (Autohelm-Raymarine)
240v;-
Sieun has
240v lights in all cabins as well as sockets.
Safety
equipment:
Horse
shoe lifebuoy with danbouy and light.
Marine
Gas detector.
Electric
automatic and manually operated bilge pumps.
Radar
reflector.
Flares
Lifelines
run fore and aft either side
Guard
rails (new in 2006)
Other
equipment:
Seiun
has a spray hood, spray dodgers and a complete cockpit enclosure (a
necessity on a small boat in England.) all are in reasonable
condition and where new in 2008.
Other
work done:
Lots of
work has been done to Seiun over the last 10/15yrs, below are some of
the key bits not mentioned above and most was carried out after
advice from a survey( Available to view on request)
The keels,
a known issue on most boats when they get older especially Westerlys,
However these where cleared out and rebedded by order of the previous
owner.
The rudder
stock was removed and reseated this year.
Other
small bits were done but too many to mention, receipts for all
previous work carried out are available and included in the sail.
Accommodation:
Sieun
boasts 6 berths, 1 double berth in the forward cabin, 1 double berth
in the saloon and two quarter berths also in the saloon.
She is
fitted with a Plastimo twin hob and grill (comes with two 5kg gas bottles fitted in stern locker), with a sink being supplied
fresh water via a foot pump from a tank.
The
last bits:
As
mentioned above there are two surveys that were carried out on the
vessel the last being in August 2010 by marine surveys, all things
brought to the owners attention was swiftly and professionally dealt
with.
There is
the certificates of British registry for all the previous years
however the latest certificate lapsed on the 17/03/2016.
The yacht
has just been antifouled with international antifoul and will be back
in the water ready for the new owners to sail away and make the most
of this summer whilst it lasts.
Absolouteley Buckets of paperwork and other bits included (charts, fenders, anchor, mooring warps).
Selling for a friend who is leaving the boating world and want shot of all.
