CONSTRUCTION
AND BUILD
Designed by John Leather and
built in West Mersea by William Wyatt in 1960
of mahogany on steamed oak. She is substantially
and traditionally constructed with a fair carvel hull, rounded stem, transom
stern and cast iron keel. The deck is
teak laid and the superstructure also of teak with new cabin/cockpit sides in
1992.
She has a long straight bowsprit, topsail and
extended boom giving a very good sail area for her size and she is stiff in a
breeze.
Tiller steering, new tiller 2014.
ACCOMMODATION
There is full standing
headroom in the main saloon providing for 2 berths. One of the berths has been adapted to provide
a permanent chart table. The fore-cabin
provides twin berths and there is a separate head compartment between the
saloon and the fore-peak.
The cabin is essentially
original and retains a warmth and charm, enhanced by traditional equipment – Taylors cooker and cabin
heater and paraffin lamps.
Because of her characteristic design, Pleione has a
very generous cockpit for her overall length.

COMMENTS
This boat is solidly built
and a proven safe sea boat with many North Sea
crossings to her name. She has been
improved over the years but retained her original looks and feel. Maintained by and recent renovations underatken by Weir Quay Boatyard. Reluctant sale due to work commitments abroad.
A
classic little ship with good looks and good sailing performance.
