“Ptarmigan” is a 31’6″ aux. sloop. She is of the “Scottish Headland Class” designed by Alfred Mylne II in 1962 and launched in 1963 at the famous McKellar Slipway on the Clyde. She has been undergoing a 12 year restoration process since the current owner bought her in 2009, including the replacement of a number of oak frames under the direction of Ian Nicolson, who was involved in her original design. She has been undercover during this period and the owner reports the mahogany planking is unpainted and in excellent condition.Ptarmigan comes complete with new rudder plus mast, boom, sails, deck fitted anchor, and a complete set of full size original drawings.Work remaining includes supply and fit of a small diesel engine, repair of a further 7 ribs, fitout of the interior. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiast to purchase a substantial pedigree classic yacht with no reserve price.
The photographs of the yacht in a shed were taken in 2009 on the Clyde. The yacht was moved to Limekilns, Fife where the interior was removed to the forepeak to allow repair work to the frames (the later photographs).
