The Atlantic Clipper hull was designed by Maurice Griffiths, and Philip & Sons of Dartmouth added the deck and coachroof arrangement with a “galleon” stern. The hull has a long shallow keel with a centreboard and keel-hung rudder. On deck the deep centre cockpit is spacious and very well protected, and the saloon has good headroom and a large galley. The aft cabin is one of the largest you will find on any long-keel yacht of this size. The ketch rig is easy to handle, and in fact, despite the quirky looks, it all works rather well. When Philips & Sons ceased building yachts in the 1970s the hull moulds were sold to Barbican Yachts of Plymouth, who used them for the Barbican 33 design, with a much more conventional aft cockpit deck/cabin structure. The boat was purchased by the previous owner as a kit in the 1970’s and was built in the late 1980’s. She has a copper bottom, so is resistant to fouling. It has a very nicely finished interior and the sails are in great condition.Purchased in August 2018, it was sailed from Falmouth to Plymouth by motor and has been used as a live aboard boat on a mooring in South East Cornwall close to Plymouth. If you wish to keep it as a live aboard boat, you would need to make the necessary arraignments with the boatyard. Currently, the mooring fees are £220.00 PCM including water. The boatyard has a shower and toilet block and a launderette. This can be a very cheap way of living with the only bills being the mooring fees and electricity (no council tax). I purchased it for this very reason! (I am not a sailor).Last year I had a cover made for the cockpit so that it is fully covered when in place.
