Beneteau Evasion 34 1982
Currently lying Portavadie on Loch Fyne, a stunning spa resort marina location with berthing paid up until the end of March. We often use the boat as “free accommodation” while taking advantage of the facilities of the marina and surrounding area.
The Evasion 34 is by far the best of the Evasion range, with the most practical and comfortable layout. Three separate and private double cabins, good sized heads with shower, a spacious and bright saloon, galley and internal steering position. She has masses of storage in all cabins. The large windows give a fantastic view of the world outside, whether on route or at anchor. One of my favourite features of the boat is the proper door to the cockpit, i.e. no washboard. Latch it open in good weather, or close behind you on colder days, and keep the cabin cosy as you steer from inside.
She’s a very comfortable boat for long trips, a bit like a big caravan on water! She has a very reliable and efficient 30hp Yanmar Diesel engine and will motor along for very long distances without refuelling. She sails really well, especially since getting her new sails, and will easily achieve 6.5 – 7 knots in a fresh breeze.
I have extensively upgraded the boat in the time that I’ve owned her, with both renewing or upgrading of existing systems, and adding new features. List as follows, apologies for its length!

She is a very solidly built boat, and can handle heavy conditions.
Things to note;
She was damaged in the infamous storm of 2011 after breaking free from her mooring at Tighnabruaich and washing ashore. A heart-breaking time for us. She was covered by insurance and professionally repaired to an extremely high standard by John Stirling at Sterling Yacht Services in Port Bannatyne. While there, I commissioned John to replace the windows, renew the wall headlining and install guardwire gates and the self-tailing winches.
She returned to us a better boat than ever.
Being the age she is, she’s obviously not perfect, but she has no major issues I’m aware of. She’s been afloat for a few seasons now, so will need to come out for fresh antifouling. She was due out at the beginning of the 2020 season, but Covid restrictions prevented that! I regularly scrape the hull with a Scrubbis brush.
I’m advertising her before she’s been lifted out, cleaned and antifouled to allow an early buyer to take advantage of her remaining berthing at Portavadie.
I had a survey done in 2014, after the damage repairs, and she was valued at £35,000.
