You are bidding on a custom built boat trailer. It was built for a 17 foot Lysander bilge keel yacht from a caravan chassis so is very robust, I’m told over engineered but I wanted something safe and easy to use. It has galvanised steel outriggers and a positioning frame, meaning you simply aim the boat to the back of the trailer and it self rights and sits correctly on the runners automatically. So simple to get the boat off or back on the trailer. There is an adjustable stop to ensure the boat sits in the exact position for balance and ready for the road. Once stopped it can be secured with the winch (custom made frame and galvanised) then hauled out of the water. There are turnbuckles which then tie the bilge onto the trailer so it doesn’t hop about (extra stability). You can also use straps when towing. There is a galvanised rigid tow bar extension pole which can be quickly and easily mounted. I made this to provide an extra six foot between the water and the back of my car. It means that my car or exhaust doesn’t have to go near the water. It is not for driving the boat with, just for launching and recovery. It does make it very easy though. You will need a towbar on the towing vehicle with a normal ball. It’s light enough to be towed by a medium sized car. The trailer is braked and these were serviced at around £150 and hasn’t been used since. You will need electrics for the trailer board lights. The boat was an absolute beauty to sail, it has roller reefing for the foresail and main. It was a father son project we made together then spent many holidays around the country. He then left home and I’m now stuck with a deteriorating boat on my garden. I now want my garden back so you are able to benefit from this. The boat hasn’t been sailed for six or seven years and is suffering from neglect. It isn’t past recovery though. It needs a full rubbing down and repainting and some woodwork replacing. I’d replace the cockpit seats. The gunwales are shot, they’ve rotted and will need replacing. The rest of the woodwork seems fine, it holds rainwater when uncovered. There is a bung to allow water to escape. It’s the trailer that you’re buying, the boat is free if you buy the trailer. I’ve included some pictures of her when she last sailed and some showing the boom tent which we used to put up to give us extra room in the cockpit. the boys liked sleeping out there on their adventures. So you can see the potential of what she can look like. You can find lots of pictures on the Facebook Lysander site. Search Facebook for “Lysander Sailboat” to view the pictures. There is a Lysander sailing association with members who will offer lots of advice and have regular sailing meetings around the country. There are pictures of our little flotilla’s on the norfolk Broads. It could be a good restoration project which should see her back to glorious in a couple of weekends. Breaking it down for parts alone is worth more than the starting price. But it would be good to see her back on the water. When looking good they can sell for thousands. There is a 5HP two stroke engine available or a British Seagull 40, both push her along really well. I also have over £150 worth of black and white marine paint available to finish the project including non slip for the decking. These would be by separate negotiation of course.
