‘Broads’ Style/Design 20’ Sailing Boat with Bilge
Keel and Aluminium Hull – Project.
An interesting broads
and coastal 2 berth sailing boat which should make a good small family
cruiser/day boat when fitted out. Shallow draft bilge keel design with ‘weighted’
keel tips. Surprisingly roomy for her length with a substantially constructed aluminium
hull and fibreglass cabin/cockpit and top sides. Internally, there’s a thick foam
insulating layer approx 75mm deep to keep the cold out.
She is believed to
have possibly been built by Brooke Marine in Lowestoft for what we think must
have been a private commission because of the Aluminium construction, probably
around the late 50’s. Unfortunately, none of this can be substantiated as it
was all past on by ‘word of mouth’ to my late father some 7-10 years ago.
Further to that,
though there is some history of the Brooke Marine company dating back to before
the first World War, there isn’t as far I have been able to find out a
catalogue of smaller boats that they may have built, though there is some
information for the larger military commissions they manufactured.
Particularly dirty and messy after the recent weather etc, this is definitely a ‘project
boat’, and will therefore need a complete clean and clear up before
fundamentally completing a full refit, though a number of the rigging fitting
positions with some fixings are already in place.
The double axle, non
braked, trailer she is sitting on can only really be for ‘yard only’ use,
though it’s actually a good quality galvanised trailer, well constructed and
robust and probably worth £400 on it’s own. I do not have any means of
transferring the boat to another trailer or transport, so boat and trailer must
go together and will probably need to be loaded onto another trailer/low loader for
transporting away.
