We need to sell our beloved ketch, a J. Laurent Giles 38 design, Dr Dolittle, originally Stormvogal. She has a Centre-plate and marconi ketch rig. All the sails are inboard with no bowsprit. She is a comfortable sailer in a seaway and has many miles -Spain, France, Netherlands, Germany- under her keel. Because of the beam Dr Dolittle has a very roomy feeling. Walking you through her: A large quarter berth has its own porthole and is aft of the chart table seat that has a lot of storage. The two heavy duty batteries are located under the berth. The chart table has an instrumentation, with storage beneath both the seat and the chart table itself. The engine room has space to work on the engine and holds the electronics in easy view. Two doors open beneath the hatchway ladder. The galley area has ample storage behind the three burner cooker with oven. There is a sink with a foot pump water supply. A 12v/240v refrigerator has a hidden utensil rack and storage beneath for pans. There is an ice box also. There is a great emphasis on light (six Dutch Lights) and air with the twin hatchways and twelve port holes. Going forward to the main salon there is a folding leaf table with dish places beneath able to sit eight in comfort. Beneath the bunk seats are the fuel tank to port and the water tank to starboard. There is storage alongside and beneath both settees. On the starboard side is the Taylor heater with its tank hidden beneath the bunk. The Heads compartment is through the doorway to port and has a pull out sink over the toilet and surprising storage areas in its well ventilated area. Across it a large hanging locker with two door access. Forward is the V-berth with hanging lockers to both sides and storage areas beneath. Forward of the V-berth is a sail stowage locker and the anchor chain locker. Dr Dolittle has wood joinery work that is fascinatingly beautiful and essentially practical.Teak and traditional workmanship was what the original owners of Dr Dolittle went to the Republic of Togo to find and they did. She has a practical ornateness that is always surprising to discover. The use of interior battens along the plank seams, the coordination of the teak runs on the deck, cabin top and cockpit area are perfectly joined. Ornate finish work can keep you wandering about the boat shaking your head continually. She is beautifully put together with Teak planking, Iroko framing and copper fastenings. Dr Dolittle is a work of art that sails comfortably. There are four sheet winches, two are self-tending, and three halyard winches as well as a reefing winch with stoppers on the Mainsail Boom. The working sails are almost new and red. There is a roller furling Genoa, a working Jib, a Mainsail and a Mizzen, all with covers or bags. There is also an almost new Cruising Chute. There is a plug-in microphone for the VHF and the wind speed and direction indicator, boat log, 2 GPSs and a Battery charge indicator all located on the external panel in easy eyesight. The flux compass never misses a degree. The wind generator seated on the mizzen keeps the batteries at full charge. Navigation lights and two sets of deck lights are mounted on the masts and on pulpit and push-pit. There are double lifelines all around. Spray dodgers, a full Winter cover and a Bimini cockpit cover are in good repair. We were gearing her up for cruising her further but our plans are changed and we need to sell her, so here you are.
