For sale is my Deben 4 ton yacht ‘Inanda’.Inanda is a small classic sailing yacht built by George Whisstock’s yard in Woodbridge in the immediate post war period. Her construction is carvel with larch above the waterline and oak below on oak frames. To the best of my knowledge Inanda has been kept on the east coast for most of her life. She was originally a British registered vessel and there is a long history of work being done on her over many years. In brief she has most of her frames sistered, had a new transom and new mast in the last few years and was looked after well by her last owner. Her recent history is that i bought her to sail as a pocket cruiser and have sailed her successfully all around the coast from her base in Ipswich all the way to Plymouth. Much of that was in moderate to harder conditions upwind in the English channel. I have only owned her a few months and am selling her now because of limited mobility primarily (waiting for a knee replacement) and that i have a better boat for the sailing i do now.Inanda coped well with the conditions that i sailed her around the coast in. As she is she is ready to sail immediately once i have taken all my personal kit off. She could do with a good tidy up of her paint and varnish work and like all wooden boats will need more work in the coming years. During the trip around from the east coast i did quite a few jobs on her including taking the rig out and replacing her halyards.Inanda is just under 23 feet long with a bowsprit of 5 feet. She is set up with 2 bunks in the cabin, both of which are comfortable for me at 6′ 2″. The forepeak has sail storage bins to starboard and just a rope-rail to port so ‘storage only’. She has a small counter space just inside the main hatch with a single burner Origo alcohol stove. There is a dry locker just inside the companionway. She is fitted with a charcoal ‘pansy’ stove. Rig and sails. Inanda is rigged as a gaff cutter with a large mains’l on wooden spars. The mains’l is relatively new and in very good condition. She has a small jib set on a Wykeham-Martin furling gear and a small stays’l set on hanks.Engine. Inanda’s engine is a 2 cylinder Volvo Penta diesel engine turning a 3 bladed propellor. The engine starts and runs well. (at time of posting the throttle needs a new morse cable). I don’t know what the engine power is but it was plenty to push Inanda into a hard channel chop.Gear. Inanda only has basic gear. There is an 8kg Delta type anchor on 25 metres of chain plus warp. She has lines and fenders and a small amount of anciliary gear. The buy it now price reflects the amount i paid for Inanda and i think that was a realistic but low amount. Since buying her i have spent about £700 on new blocks and rigging.Inanda is afloat at Calstock boatyard in the Tamar river. The price does not include a mooring and any arrangement to stay at Calstock would have to be made with them at the yard.
