Amber X109 is a classic one-design keelboat, berthed on a
Hamble River Mooring, ready to go sailing.
The good bits: Solid hull, professionally epoxied and in great
condition. Recent overhaul at George Haines Boatyard (June 2021) including work
to her hull, rudder and installation of new manual and electric bilge pumps
(and battery), new standing rigging and new halyards. New anchor and chain/warp
and large foam fender. Invoices available. Boat cover is old but serviceable.
Points for improvement: Current sails are from 2014 and fine
for cruising and to start racing. Sheets are a little old. She could so with a coat
of paint and varnish over the winter.
There is an active fleet of XOD’s in and around the Solent,
including the most entries of any class at Cowes week. If racing is your thing
she will do you proud. However, if you prefer to cruise (and perhaps camp –
which is what we have been using her for recently) she is ready to go.
You can find out more about the XOD class at www.xonedesign.org.uk. Also, see the extract
from the XOD 100th anniversary book (see pictures) which details her
history, including being owned by David Dimbleby and sailed by Jilly Cooper. Amber
opens the door to classic sailing and the timing of this sale allows the new
owner to enter Hamble Classics regatta, in early September.
Amber is currently on a Hamble River mid-river pontoon (paid
for until 31st Dec) and by agreement with the club, the buyer could
take that over.
Genuine reason for sale. Viewing by arrangement. Happy to answer any questions.
