“Pierce Eye” A Walton & Frinton One Design. Morgan Giles built in 1921. She is one of seven class boats, having a very high handicap in the Old Gaffers Association. Meaning she is very successful indeed! She is a half-decked open classic racing boat design. To be sailed by two crew and is easily trailerable. I found her completely wrecked on Haling Island in Hampshire, and through a serendipitous series of events I was introduced to the grandson of her builder who very kindly presented me with a copy of the original plans. From which I lofted out her new hull and made a new Iroko keel and stem laminated it as one piece. She has a new Iroko transom and is planked in Sitka Spruce. Her present state; In situ in my cabinet maker’s workshop on a custom building bench, with all building molds set up.- Building Molds in place ready for ribbing (Planks copper riveted) – Some ribs pre steam bent- remaining ribs shaped.- centre board case and brackets fabricated in Iroko- Rudder and Tiller fabricated in Iroko and Ash.- Iroko for thwarts included (rough sawn boards) – All original brass work and fittings polished.- All fastenings required to complete included.- Original Cast Iron Keel.- New Steel drop plate.- Original Mast and Gaff. New timber for Boom and some standing and running rigging.- New timber for Gunwales – Original Sail plans are currently on file with a sail maker in Exmouth, therefor a conversation is to be had with him.- Copy of plans included.She can be easily lifted onto a boat trailer in her current position with the molds secured, to allow the new owner to continue the build.
