This is a classic sailing dinghy called “Moss Rose” which is for sale as a restoration project. The boat was built around 1962 by a famous wooden boat builder Frank Shuttlewood in Paglesham. The last photo shows Moss Rose as she was when she was built in 1962 – I have more photos from that time.. The boat was built of mahogany clinker construction on oak ribs. The mast, boom, gaff and bowsprit are all spruce. There is a mainsail and jib which are in usable condition, but the jib has a small tear which has been patched in the past. There is a heavy iron lifting centreplate and a lifting wooden rudder. The boat has been in my garden for some years awaiting restoration. Unfortunately business commitments recently have prevented me from completing the project, and a house move now forces me to sell. The boat comes with a two-wheel boat trailer with winch which is in relatively good condition. There is a partial boat cover in relatively good condition. The boat had a foredeck when the cover was made so it does not cover the whole boat, but could be extended to do so.The boat and trailer are sold as seen, and the buyer will need examine them carefully to assess their condition. The boat and trailer are only for sale together – I am not selling the trailer separately. The buyer will need to remove the boat from my garden, which will require at least two strong guys to lift the boat onto the trailer and manoever it down the side alley of the house.Moss Rose is looking for a new owner who is willing to take on the task of restoring a classic East Coast built sailing dinghy to her former glory and preserving a little bit of classic boat history.
