Hillyard 4 Ton – 21ft Classic Wooden Sailing Yacht – WhimbrelBuilt in 1936 by Hillyards of Littlehampton, this is a classic 21ft coastal cruising sailing yacht. She has a displacement hull and is constructed from carvel planked mahogany over steamed oak ribs with teak decking and fore / cockpit hatches.Currently in very good condition for her age but will need some work to get her back to sailing condition. The first and foremost job on her is to replace the bow stem with American white oak (or similar) as a rotten / badly sealed bolt through the anchor roller had allowed water to get into the wood and rotted it out. As you can see from the the photos, I have removed this down to the where it met the keel, which goes back to solid wood. All original copper pins have been saved to refit the stem.Secondly the paint needs removing and possibly recaulking and undercoating/ repainting. I have fully stripped out the old interior as it was not the original and was not that good a job. The interior planking can be seen and all looks to be solid and sound. The bronze keel bolts have been removed and checked recently and all are intact. The cockpit lockers walls will need replacing as someone in the past used the incorrect ply and it has rotted through. I have some high grade marine ply to replace this that will come with the boat.Comes with 3 sails – main, fore and a I believe a spinnaker. All are in excellent usable condition and still crispy.Mast and boom appear sound but will need a coat of varnish. The yacht has 6HP Petter diesel engine which runs well and is currently filled with coolant /antifreeze to preserve it. Various miscellaneous items including 3 anchors, anchor chain, bow sprit, batteries (untested), ropes, buoys, life preserver etc. She’s is being sold as a project for obvious reasons but with some time and effort she will make a rewarding yacht for someone to sail. The first 2 photos are of her in her prime, the second two are when I got her, photo five is of her bow stem before it was removed and the rest are the resultant hole.I have spent many hours on her getting her to the point that a full restoration can begin and paid a large amount to acquire her so I would like to get some of the back, hence the advertised price.I bought her in April with the hope to restore her and sailer her down to London where I was going to be moving, however due to a last minute and unplanned career change I will not be close enough or have the time to sail her. ***VIEWING HIGHLY RECOMMENDED****Currently on hard standing in the Goole Viking Marina – monthly fees £90. she can be moved at the buyers expense or the contract with VM can be extended so she can stay there.I can get more photos if required. Thanks for looking! Please feel free to ask any questions.
