The vessel was built for the Royal Navy and launched in 1911 on the 1st January. “NOROK” is believed to have been similar to the restored boat shown at the Navy musuem, click the link. http://www.nmrn-portsmouth.org.uk/exhibits-and-collections/steam-pinnace”NOROK” was still in steam throughout the first and second world wars, finally finishing service with the Royal Navy, she was registered at Lloyds in 1951, No 181205. She was then converted from steam to diesel engine power, and was noted to have been then re-fitted by Smiths’ boat yard in Goole, she eventually was then taken over by the Dewsbury sea cadets in Yorkshire, as described in a newspaper cutting on her passage through Goole on June 10th 1952. “NOROK” eventually became a leisure cruiser on the British Waterways, where she is now moored near Leeds in West Yorkshire. Since purchasing “NOROK” in 1996 the owners have enjoyed many years of happy cruising, although now just a happy memory, some of the family still preferring “NOROK” to home life, so they are finding it hard to let her go. However over the years the weather has taken its toll on the timber structure. Note – the upper deck alterations in the photos are now in need of restoration.”NOROK” is currently fitted with a Perkins S6M marine engine, the engine is in need of a complete rebuild, as it has been under water and is decades old, they were built to last, so restoration should be doable, but at the moment the engine is a non runner and cannot be guaranteed. “NOROK” is pretty much just a shell, and there is no workable items onboard, other than the gear box and steering, which is in good working order.Note: There are other engines available that were purchased for future use, a Sissons single cylinder steam engine and a Ruston & Hornsby diesel, the engines are NOT part of the “NOROK” boat sale and can be viewed in the sellers other items, should an engine be sought.”NOROK’s” keel is built of teak, oak carvel (planked on outer and diagonal inside), and is the original from the build of 1910, above the keel is a mixture of civilian alterations over time, and the latter, “as already stated” is in poor condition, the keel has not been surveyed for sometime, so inspection and viewing before purchase is advised.”NOROK” could really do with a sensitive restoration, to bring her back to her former glory, as seen on the Royal Navy website when they restored Pinnace 199, something the current owner of NOROK is unable to conduct, but still views the old design plans and the model in the link below. www.vintagemodelplans.com”NOROK” now seeks a new owner, with the skill and financial capablity to give a restoration that she deserves, bringing “NOROK” back to her former glory, which was a craft of character, equally comfortable on the river, estuary or ocean.
