Galleon 22 Sailing yacht
Since placing the original listing I have just been to investigate the problem of the Bukh dv7 engine not starting. The engine has a manual start facility with an automatic decompressor. After a couple of attempts, I was actually able to start the engine by hand although I only ran the engine for less than a minute. I then went on to investigate the reason why I was unable to start the engine with starter motor. On removing the starter motor from the engine, I found the starter motor siezed and there to be water in the starter motor. There also appears to be water in the bottom of the bell housing. The boat has been on a trailer for well over 2 years so I can only presume that at some point in time, rain water must have accumulated in the boat to a point where it was able to get into the housing. I have no idea what the long term implications of this water getting into the housing are going to be at this stage and would ask that at best you consider the engine spares or repair.
I have also noticed some corrosive pitting on the trailer chassis near the tow hitch. The steel is substantial section at this point and does not appear to have significantly weakened the trailer at this point but I’d rather be 100% upfront as I don’t want to waste either yours or my time as so often happens with ebay.
These are the reasons for ending the previous listing early.
Also since listing the boat, I have purchased another boat and now need the space for the new boat ASAP.
I will therefore start this revised listing for £1. Yes only £1!!
Please get in contact if you have any questions. I’ll answer them frankly and honestly but seriously I’d much prefer you to come and view the boat so you are 100% happy with what you decide to bid if you choose to do so. I will end the auction early if at some point someone is prepared to pay me £400 for the boat and associated equipment outlined below. I will not add the option to buy it now directly from the add though as I’ve had too many problems with dreamers clicking “buy it now” never to be heard of again. Message me through ebay with best time to contact you and I will get back to you in the order I recieve any messages. Similarly, if you have any questions or would like additional photos, please ask. I’ve got loads but obviously ebay limits me to putting up only 12 photos.
Failing that, If no one feels that the package is worth £400 the auction will run to the end and will sell with absolutely no reserve. I need the time & space more that the money but I would like to find someone to take on what could be a lovely, inexpensive yacht.
In addition to the kit listed in the original advert. I will also add the following additional kit to help complete the boat that I no longer have need for.
Autopilot.A spinnaker in pretty good condition ( I didn’t see any rips or repairs when I looked at it the other day)
Small Seagull outboard ( I’ve never run it but they never die – once you’ve started them)
Stainless steel sinkA large anchor chain and warp.Cabin lining material and several cans of spray adhesive.
Galleon 22 sailing yacht with excellent potential to make a sound little pocket cruiser with a little work. These are excellent little boats with a spacious cockpit, a good turn of speed and about 5’9″ max headroom in the main cabin and exceptional value for money!
Whilst this boat does need some work as outlined below. Unusually, she comes with a relatively unused Bukh diesel engine installed having only recorded just over 200 hrs from new. In addition, she comes with what looks like a substantial, custom built road trailer. These alone must be worth several times the auction starting price.
As mentioned above, the boat clearly has some issues that need to be addressed before she could be put on the water. As best I can remember, these are outlined below. Please understand though that this boat has seen many summers and
The good points:
The boat has relatively recently been fitted with a Bukh DV7 engine. Please take onboard the comments about the engine condition above
The trailer has essentially been fabricated from heavy duty ‘C’ section as seen in the photos. It isn’t galvanised but it is heavy duty steel. The trailer wheels look like Landrover wheels and were fitted with new tyres shortly before I acquired the boat. Presumably the axles are also some Landrover derivative. The trailer is fitted with cable brakes which worked perfectly a couple of years ago. The trailer has only been stood outside since and not been in the water.
There’s a roller reefing system for the genoa it looks complete and functional but I’ve never had the mast up so I can’t vouch for this.
There’re various bit of electronic equipment that again are untested and may or may not work once the electrics have been ‘tidied’ A plastimo wind speed meter. A depth / echo sounder and a steering compass.
The boat is without question in need of a certain amount of work to realise its full potential and make her seaworthy.
Re-bonding the stern tube and replace the cutlass bearing. There is some wear on the prop shaft which may require re-machining in conjunction with replacing the cutlass bearing.
At some point in her history she has been badly painted so would certainly benefit from being rubbed down and repainted.
The original sea toilet has been removed ready for replacing with a portloo or similar. There are seacocks in the hull still should you want to reinstate another sea toilet though. The electrics are a mess and would benefit from a complete review. There are an assortment of sails in various states of disrepair. Some original and some tan ones should you wish to revive a trend for coloured sails.
