Hunter Horizon 272 1991 bilge Keel (hull number 123)
Up for sale is my Hunter 272. I’ve had ‘Spring’ for several years and has mainly been used for sailing with my Son in Cardiff bay. Sadly he’s now lost interest and it’s now time for her to find a new owner.
She’s fitted with a inboard/outboard Tohatsu sail drive 6hp engine which is plenty powerful enough. Great for ease of maintenance and keeps the noisy, smelly Diesel engine out of the main cabin!
Inside shes of open plan design but does have a stern cabin which is separate to the rest of the main cabin. Spring can sleep 4 people comfortably but does have the ability to sleep 6 but I’d suggest that was a little tight unless the front double is used for children. She has a fully fitted heads with toilet and sink. The Galley comprises of a 2 burner hob with grill, a sink and a fitted cool box allowing for catering for long weekends without port stops which is great for exploring, as she’s of bilge design she only draws 1 meter of water so you can go where fin keeled boats can’t! She also has the ability to ‘dry’ out on the beach.
She’s great as a family boat. She can also get quite a turn of speed up in the right conditions, she’s also easily handled by one person as everything is run back to the cockpit so no need for scary excursions out on deck when the weather is interesting.
Spring comes with quite a lot of kit:-
Honwave 2.75m dingy
2.2hp Mercury outboard for dingy/backup for main yacht
4 man life raft
Flares (in date)
Flat pack/lazy jacks for quick and neat stowing of main sail
Roller furling Genoa (new UV strip fitted)
Spray hood and spray dodgers
Electric pump for inflating dingy
Solar panel to charge battery
At least 2 other spare sets of sails(Hank on and furling style
3 crew saver life jackets.
Battery charge indicator
Basic log/speed/depth instrumentation
Basically everything you need to get out on the water and enjoy this years sailing season.
The boat had a survey prior to me buying her which I still have and she was found to be in good condition. She does need a few little jobs sorting but nothing that prevents her from being used. There’s also the odd mark here and there but nothing that’s not to be expected for a 30 year old boat.
I’ve priced her really competitively at £7750……(next closest Hunter 272 on price online was for well over £10k) I might take a offer but as she’s already bargain basement price with all the kit that she comes with I won’t be accepting any silly ones. At the moment she’s laying in Cardiff bay on a pontoon morning. After sale she can be kept there for 30 days, after that she’ll either have to be moved or you could join CBYC and enjoy sailing in the area, she costs about £80pcm to keep in Cardiff which is great value! The club is really friendly and has all the facilities you’d need.
