For sale is ‘Dizzy Liz’ a 29 foot cruiser/racer designed by Kim Holman, a well known naval architect of the 1960’s. This particular boat is hull no 62. Built in Lymington by Peter Webster Ltd. Exiting the factory as a completed hull on 4th August 1966.I have previously had her for sale on eBay but the winning bidder neither paid nor communicated with me so here she is again. If your going to bid, please be serious and understand what it is your buying…!!!!Around 100 of these boats were built and the Elizabethan design has a reputation as a fast, seaworthy boat with good handling. In the 1960’s fibreglass was still not quite fully understood as a building material. Meaning that boats of this era were very heavily built using traditional boat building methods which in turn created very robust, capable and seaworthy craft. They are considered moderate Bluewater cruisers. Due to this build quality boats of this type don’t tend to appear on the yacht market all that often as their owners have a tendency to hold onto them.I bought Dizzy Liz in April 2022 with the intention of doing her up and taking her sailing. As you can see from the photos this has not happened. I am now listing her for sale at a very reasonable priceI am the 10th owner which isn’t too bad for a boat 58 years old. She has had some very diligent owners. I have the complete sale history and original build certificates for this boat which I have sorted into sensible order in a folder for the new owner. The boat is currently stored on the RIVER RIBBLE, PRESTON, LANCASHIRE and Storage fees are currently paid up until the end of JUNE. I will transfer this storage over to the winning bidder. Please see below for what is included in the sale and what works are required to bring her up to sailing condition.SURVEY:I have the pre-purchase survey which I had conducted in April 2022 available as a pdf which I can send to any interested parties.ENGINE: Yanmar 2QM15 This engine is cosmetically showing its age and at present turns over freely but does not start. I suspect this is due to the fuel system needing a good filter change and a clean out. I have not had time to do this.ELECTRICS:NASA Clipper DepthNASA Target Log and DepthAplec VXL200 VHF RadioGarmin GPS 120Saisho Cassette/RadioRaytheon ST1000+ Tiller Pilot (Untested)NASA Navtex (Untested)There is one 12 volt car battery which is in place as a starter battery for the engine. I have not looked too deeply into the current electrical system. It is functional but a bit cluttered. My intention was to just pull out the old electrical system and start again from fresh.MAST AND SAILS:The mast is currently unstepped and stored alongside the boat on a cradle. The standing rigging is attached but I do not know its age. Aluminium Proctor roller furling mast and boom which has been converted to slab reefing. – I am fairly certain that this is the boats original mast from 1966. Was surveyed as being in good condition. Mainsail and Roller furling Jib – Both are used but in serviceable condition, will do as is but could probably do with a good valet.Cruising chute in bag – Don’t think it’s ever been used.EXTRAS:Taylors IDEAL K Paraffin stove – Paraffin tank is currently installed in the port cockpit locker.2 x Stowable Telescopic Yacht Supports (MKII) made by the Yacht Leg Company The previous owner when purchasing the yacht legs had the hull professionally strengthened and prepared to take these yacht legs. They are worth a small fortune and difficult to find. For a long time you couldn’t get hold of these. The company who makes them has only recently started producing them again. Eberspacher Diesel fuelled Air Heater – Untested and needs attention.WORKS REQUIRED:HULL: The hull was tested for moisture during the pre-purchase survey and contains very little moisture for a boat of this age. The hull requires standard cosmetic work I.E. Sanded back, filled and faired for minor scratches, epoxy primed and then painted. No major damage, just the usual bumps and scrapes you would expect for a boat of this age.COCKPIT WOODWORK: The previous owner painted the cockpit woodwork in garden decking paint. Not very pretty but it has done its job and protected the wood underneath. There is some very nice wood underneath. Will need a run over with a heat gun and a good sand to remove the paint before re-varnishing.COCKPIT SOLE HATCH: The biggest issue this boat has is that the cockpit sole hatch over the engine is not watertight. I have built an A frame tent over the boat and done what I can to slow water ingress but this wooden hatch needs re-sealing and either a wooden or fibreglass replacement fitted.WINDOWS: The windows need removing and resealing. The aluminium frames could do with a good tidy up aswell. They are looking very rough from the inside as the owner just glued wooden trim over the screws with sealant. The window screws are exposed in places where I have removed the wooden trim to see what I’m working with.MAST:The boom looks fine but the mast needs a good clean and a gentle wet sand. You can buy various different mast restorer treatments which are a clear film you can paint onto the mast to protect the aluminium and will last 2 – 3 years per treatment. Personally I was going to completely replace the chainplates and standing rigging as I don’t know its history but if you wanted, you could just put the current standing rigging back on with the mast. It’s your call.!!DECK:The deck is of fibreglassed plywood construction and largely on the whole in good condition. I have however noticed one or two soft spots which you could just paint over and leave. But in order to do a real proper job, these soft spots ideally need cutting out and a new patch of plywood fibreglassed in. I am no boat builder but I was happy giving it a go.OVERALL CONDITION:Overall this boat doesn’t need anything massive structural doing to her. She is what she is. A cosmetic project which needs some hard work putting into her to get her up to standard. I don’t think there is anything here which is beyond the abilities of the average person who can work a sander whilst taking a diligent, common sense approach.I have priced Dizzy Liz at £2950 which I think is more than reasonable for what is included with the boat and the work involved. If anyone has any further questions or would like to view the pre-purchase survey then please feel free to get in touch. Thank You.
